Engine Running Rich
« on: June 02, 2008, 20:40:40 pm »
Quick question for everyone.
My engine seems to be running rich.  It smells like fuel more than it should at low speed or idling.   I do use the blower and that is working well but just wondering if anyone knows how to adjust or figure out what the mixture is.

Do I have to hook it up to a scanner?  Does anyone else have a lot of gas fumes when slowing down or idling.

Any ideas/ things to check.  The boat seems to be running great and it has low hours (145).  Although my top speed is only about 35mph (2 or 3 people in boat) at just over 5000 rpms.

Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend a plug change. It sounds like it's down on power, too. It should hit 5800 or so. Does it have the stock prop?

Plugs first then clean throttle plate and MAF sensor. But I agree with Cyclone plugs first and try.

I assume the prop is stock.  Its a 4 blade.
I was just about to order those plugs someone mentioned from RockAuto.com so I'll do that and give it a try.

Thanks for the input.  I'll keep the thread updated.

Changed the spark plugs as well as cleaned the MAS, Throttle body and spark arrestor.  The MAS had all sorts of "fuzz" on it.
The boat ran great today and felt like it had much more power.   Full throttle got up to about 5800RPMs and almost 40mph.
Thanks to all for the helpful ideas.
