Bought a 14/12 spare prop
« on: June 10, 2008, 05:43:31 am »
Went to a prop shop today here in town and got one for $150 that he claimed was $400 for a new one.

Am i going to notice much difference between the stock one and this?

I put this one on the boat because the stock one had a good ding in it, & want to use the old one as a spare.

He told me to try it out and see what i think, and he'll adjust it for me.

Do you think i'll like it, or should i take it back?

We're not into heavy wakeboarding or skiing, and use the boat mainly for kneeboarding, tubing, and touring.

Bump......

I'd like to know what everyone thinks about this prop. Good or bad, cause i'd be more than willing to return it for a different one.

What boat do you have, is it the correct rotation, shaft size, etc? You can always just put it on and try it.

When i was in the market for a new "ballast" prop acme wanted me to try a new 14x14 that alot of the new wake boats are using. After taking some measurements and emailing them to acme, Bill did not recommend we try it. he said there is not proper clearance. You will "burn" the gelcoat. If I remember correctly you need at least and inch clearance between prop and hull.

Tell us again what you are running these days, Wakejunky? I need a new prop. Put ten people in the boat and it takes 1/4 mile to plane out.

Pete:

Bought an ACME last year Model 449 13x12.5 LH - works great on my SX.  I'm at altitude though so your options may be different.

Pete.....to answer your question, the prop is already installed & i like it so far. Went out today & tested it out, and boy is it smooth & the hole shot didn't suffer at all. Course i only had 4 of us in the boat at the time, so we'll see at powell in a couple weeks how she does.

Wakejunky........

I am going to go measure mine right now to see how much clearance i have.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I appreciate it.

Well i just took a look at my clearance with the 14" prop & we're all good.

I have at least 2" clearance between prop & hull.

Boy it sure is a smooth prop though compared to our old one that was dinged. He must have did a good job on refurbishing it i guess.
