Not-so-good vibrations
« on: June 11, 2008, 01:21:58 am »
Getting some vibration when I make turns, particularly left turns, and particularly with lots of people in the boat.

Does this sound like an alignment issue? I've read elsewhere it could also be a problem with the prop not being seated correctly.

Thanks!

My guess would be you have a little bit of cavitation because you have a very slight ding in your prop. Do you have a spare you can put on?

I had a similar issue with my old Toyota prop. My new ACME fixed it. Seems like the ACME fixes all EPIC issues!

I "third" the vote for this to be a prop issue.  Under higher loads this is probably more noticeable.  Also make sure your rudder is lubed up good.

I love my OJ XMP but after I replaced it I took my OEM prop to a prop repair place and they fixed it and rebalanced for like $75 which makes a cost effective spare compared to $400.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

My father-in-law has an Epic just like mine, and I drove it last weekend. He had a similar vibration in his on right turns (mine is usually on left turns). I'm thinking it could be a fairly normal thing that is exacerbated when the boat is loaded down.

I'll get it checked out eventually. But as of now, I'm guessing it's not a huge deal.
