issues with brakes may have a solution need advice
« on: May 21, 2009, 00:14:35 am »
so i am not going to be able to figure out my brake issue.  by calipers are not stuck it might be a problem with the actuator.  i am going to skip it for a while and i think i am just going to pull the pads and disconnect the brake lines to prevent the piston from moving. does anyone see a problem with this.  i know it is a jerry rig but i dint want to mess with it now or this weekend on the highway.  plus when i have time it wouldn't hurt putting in new brake fluid this year.

That will work, but I hope you have a good tow vehicle that can handle the load with no brakes on the trailer.
I pulled my buddies MasterCraft a few times with NO brakes on his trailer and you need to allow twice the distance you think you need to stop.

I used to pull an old ski boat on my ford explorer it did the job.  i am pulling it with a GMC yukon so it should handle it.  mostly highway so not really breaking all that much anyway

DONT disconnect the lines. when you back into the lake that will let water in the lines. moisture is NOT good in a brake system. It is very common for the actuator on these to go out. I personally wouldn't put myself, my boat, or other people at risk on the highway if i doubted its safety. The trailer as well as the boat may have issues your not aware of if your skipping on your maintenance. Don't mean to preach, but these boats are only bulletproof if you take care of them. The trailer is just plane crap. That's where Toyota saved alot of money.

Just in case you need a weekend fix.......2 dimes taped together.....Remember to remove them before you trailer your rig away.
