Help!! Fuel filter problem & water pump small leak
« on: May 31, 2009, 08:35:49 am »
Replaced the fuel filter today, and the inner 3/8" nipple came out with the filter. Tried to get the nipple off but to no evail, and stripped the threads. So after a couple different trips to the hardware store, we found a 3/8" x close brass nipple that seemed to do the trick. Hopefully i won't have problems. Any comments for me here? Will everything be okay, and is there something i can do to prevent this in the future?
The old nipple still stuck in the old filter, seems to be about 1/2" longer than the new one.

Also, ran the boat with fake a lake for a while and when we shut it off the water pump had a few drips of water. It wasn't a lot of water coming out, but enough for me to be concerned. The boat was a little nose low, so maybe it just drained toward the pump, and not out toward the pipes?

Does anybody think i should replace the water pump?

Any help would be appreciated; going to lake powell next month and i don't want any problems.

The boat is a 1999 Epic 22 with 290 hours. It has the original drive belt, and it shows no signs whatsoever of cracking.

Yeah, i figured i must have tightened it too tight last year.

It's hard to tell where exactly it's coming from, but it looks like right in the crevise. I beleive it's the water pump, as it's where i changed the impeller. Like i said though, there's not much but a drip here and there is all.

ok so do you mean by the on/off power switch? if so, mine drips pretty good. actually right on the main power switch. but i dont care. i dont worry about it. theres a seal you should replace when you replace the impeller but i never do. so it drips or "LEAKS" as some would call it. BUT, goes away if your not at idle.

Yes, just above & behind the switch. It leaked after i shut it off, but wasn't leaking when running.

So you don't think it's anything i should worry about?

If your not going to sleep worrying about the leak crack it open and check the o ring to make sure it's undamaged and properly seated. If it's damaged just replace it.

The fitting are brass with 3/8 id hose barbs. I think 1/4 pipe . You can get them at Home depot. Use teflon tape to reinstall rated for fuel. Also cut hose so it has new area to clamp too.
