Travel Cover Questions
« on: July 07, 2009, 19:59:09 pm »
I have a 2000 X22 with stock folding tower with the 'standard' blue tarp I have seem on several boat pics on this site. It covers the tower when it is folded (batwing). I have only used it as a storage and mooring tarp. Can it be used as a travel tarp? Will it hold together if I drive down the highway with it? If not, what do you recommend? Local friend here just purchased a new Nautique and had a custom $2700. tarp made up for it...OUCH. I am betting there is a travel ready cover designed for our boats that I can purchase for much less. I know travel tarps have been discussed but did not have luck searching the forum for the topic.
I figured that I could untarp my boat each time I travel... but I always seem to be able to find rotten weather en route that gets it dirty on the way. Discouraging.

Also, does anyone know how to get tree sap stains off the vinyl upholstery?

I believe "rankin" makes awesome travel covers. might check them out. As for towing with the bat wing cover, your biggest issue is with towing with the tower folded. I wouldn't do it. My batwing cover is factory and its not designed to be towed with. just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the lead. I will get in touch with them.

I am curious why you recommend not towing with the tower folded. I just about always drop the tower when pulling for long distances and have never had a problem... but I am not sure what type of problem I should be concerned with. Why do you recommend tower up?

I travelled with my stock tower folded down...one of the pivot bolts wiggled out of it's threads and the tower came down on my upholstery pinching a hole in it while the loose end of the tower scratched my windshield.  That was expensive >:(  Anyhoo I got an aftermarket tower so I needed a new cover.  Ski Masters/Seattle Watersports had/has brand new factory covers for non tower boats that they modified for my tower legs and it works great.
