Im interested in this 99.....do you think its a good deal?
« on: July 14, 2009, 04:52:13 am »
Hey Guys! Great Forum.  :D I hope to be a contributing member someday! I am very interested in a 99 with 800 hours. Here is a link to the add:

I went to look at the boat today and it seemed to be in decent shape. The guy selling it is the 3rd owner. It has a few scratches here and there but nothing major. Some of the stitching was coming undone in the upholstery but that should be an easy fix. What do you think? Is 16k reasonable or should I negotiate a better price? I have zero experience with boats  but lots of experience with Toyota (landcruisers specifically )so any advice would be helpfull!

to do the maintenance stuff you are probably looking at $600-1k, if it has been done it seems like a fair price, if not that is a negotiation point for sure

if you don't have boat experience hopefully you know someone that does that can look it over for you, 16k is a lot of money for something 10 years old - it is worth it if everything is fine but not if it was neglected

by the way if some of the stitching is falling apart the rest is probably close, unless you know someone that has knowledge to do that work it can get pricey too

it depends on your perspective - a quick current ebay search for similar money you could have this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-Malibu-Sportster-Ski-wakeboard-boat_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a3Q7c66Q3a2Q7c39Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem3ca3d71e44QQitemZ260446821956QQptZPowerQ5fMotorboatsQQsalenotsupported

or this from ski-it-again

http://www.ski-it-again.com/php/skiitagain.php?topic=Search&postid=SIA09072

but I would consider a 400hr/500hr gm350/ford351 about the same wear as an 800hr 1UZ - probably a little under half way to a rebuild

not to mention all the other things that make an E22 better than a sportster...

(in this market I think all three are a little high)

as an aside, the epic in question here has had about 75 hours a year put on it which isn't that high - I'd probably rather have it than a 200 hour boat that had 50 hours a year at first and sat for years with very little before someone sold it... it all depends on if somebody cared or not
