Ok, this is my third topic and I'm you can tell I'm new.  I have a thing about details and I like things to work properly which is why I have so many questions.  Anyways,  I have read a few posts about people having trouble with gauges so I don't to repeat things that have already been said. 

My speedo is all over the map (except the actual speed).  My oil pressure alarm keeps going off when the motor is idling.  The Tach is my biggest concern which reads 3600 RPM at WOT.  It says 540 RPMs at idle.  I am thinking of just replacing the speedo with GPS Perfect Pass but I'm not sure what to do about the Tach.  I read a post about different settings on the computer for a 2 or 4 on the Tach which doesn't seem to make sense for me because that would mean 7200 RPMs at WOT.  I really appreciate any expertise.  By the way I have a 2001 SX.

I had the same problem with the tach when I was trying to figure out how to get AccuSki to work.  I changed mine from 2PPR to some other number and thought I was adjusting something for weight in the speed control.  A few pulls later I was complaining about going to fast even though we were still pulling at the same RPM.  Turns out it was adjusted down by about 1000 RPM.  Set it back and it was perfect again.  See attached pic of the correct settings for our boats.

For the gauges a cool troubleshooting method is to change out which plugs are in which gauge.  If the gauge begins to work when plugs are switched the harness is bad, if the gauge still does not work when a plug from a working gauge is plugged in then the gauge is bad. 

The other thing I learned that day is I don't have AccuSki, only took about 4 hours to realize that one!  In my defense it was only my second day with the boat.

We took the boat out today and the setting for the tach was "3".  When I changed it to "2" it was fixed!

The oil pressure alarm goes off every time you bring the boat to idle.  When you are trying to teach kids how to wakeboard this can get old.  Is replacing the oil pressure sending unit a big project?

Oil pressure switch is easy to change. It is right next to the oil filter.

I thought there was a picture somewhere on the site but couldn't find one. However, I did find this description, courtesy of Cyclone.

"It's the little gold canister screwed in opposite your oil filter. There is a nut cast into the body where it contacts the oil filter housing. It is probably a 13/14/15 mm. Use one wrap of teflon tape on the threads, it's a remove and replace type thing. The wire pushes onto a stud on top. Five minutes."

DO NOT use teflon tape. The unit will not ground if it has teflon tape on it.

I replaced mine a couple of years ago for the same problem.  I used the overtons sensor unit and it seems to read real high!  I know it is incorrect but there is no low pressure alarm anymore.  Anything off idle is over 80 psi all the time.  I think I did use teflon tape though.  What kind of tape should you use?

this is the one that feeds the gauge. You do not need any tape on the threads. Just screw it in.

All of your problems are common, simple problems. Fix one at a time;) Good advice here. Fix the oil sender first, clean the speedo pitot tube, then see if the settings Lance sent will fix your tach. PP has a tach so you don't NEED to fix the factory one, and you do NEED perfect pass.

I second PerfectPass. and you don't have to drill a hole for a paddle wheel anymore. All GPS based.

Installed it and.. no more alarm.

Thanks guys.  I also swapped out the blower.  I followed the instructions in the maintenance section and it took about an hour.  I can't believe the difference.  I think I am going to need to wait until next year for perfect pass.  I just spent $1000 on misc. stuff since this is our first boat.  Life jackets, tube, 2 wakeboards, 2 ropes, anchor setup (a must for Roosevelt), dock lines, impeller, oil pressure sensor, digital display, and I think you get the idea.  I like to buy quality and buy it once so I figure the initial cash will pay off for years.  Thanks again for all of your help, more projects to come.
