Won't Start
« on: April 25, 2010, 20:51:35 pm »
I replaced the contacts on the starter and the boat still won't start. All I get is a series of clicks. Any ideas?

thanks

And all of the connections - bright and tight?

The battery is good, brand new last year & fully charged. Bypassed the perko to make sure it wasn't a bad switch. Connections appear rust free and tight. Getting 12v at the starter. I'll recheck the ground, but not sure what else it could be. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

honestly sound like a battery or connection issue given the long series of clicks. also take a look at the ignition switch some times the screws will loosen up. but id bet on the first. have the battery load tested, it has to have the amperage as well as the volts.

I had this problem and it turned out to be a voltage drop across the perko switch.  Replaced the switch and boom, started right up!

Thanks for your help on this one Lakeside, Rambling Wreck, 2000epic and wakejunky.

Turned out to be a connection issue. One of the wires was pinched (for lack of a better word), wearing through the insulating cover and into the wire-which then corroded. Took me a weekend to find it and had to clean out my bilge to do it, but boat runs smooth and the bilge has never been cleaner.

thanks again
