Keyless Ignition
« on: June 11, 2010, 19:44:16 pm »
After repeatedly misplacing my keys, I'm considering a keyless ignition system. Just looking for comments and whether or not anyone out there would recommend installing one.

Thanks
Todd

I have had them in both my Epics. My first boat had a Mercruiser one installed by the dealer. I purchased one and put it on my SX as soon as I bought it. I think they discontinued the one I used.  There's pics on here  of it. I was able to install it without cutting any wires. It plugs in place of the keyswitch, and you mount a small square module under the dash. It took about 30 minutes. I highly recommend it, very handy option.

One thing I like is that it is hooked to the blower, and automatically runs it when you shut off, and when you are below 1500 rpms.

I'll do a search and see if I can find the one I bought. It was from West Marine but it was on closeout.

This is the one. I didn't drill any holes either, and if I wanted to go back to a key ignition I'd just have to put a switch in and plug in the wires. I gave my original switch to Lesman;) they are a common failure item.

Cyclone,

Can you still run your accessories without the boat running?

Thanks

After reading Cyclones post several years ago I found one on EBay and put one in, I love it. I did put in a secondary rocker switch for the radio so I can run the accessories separate from the engine. ;D

Yes, you just pull the lanyard and your accessories run without the BEEEEEP.  I have my stereo wired separately though.
