Hi guys, I am hoping someone can give some guidance. I have read lots of posts that deal with CEL being on but I didn't see one that is quite what I have.
I have taken possesion of my Fathers 1999 E21 and am in the process of prepping it for sale. I was the last one to use the boat last year (July) and then Dads condition failed him and the boat was not used the rest of the year. When I Parked it in the garage, I did so with a full tank of fuel and a Sta-Bil treatment. Before I took it last year Dad had just put new plugs in it and it ran like a bat out of ......
Somewhere in the last year, Dad had "borrowed" gas out of it, presumably for a mower or something.
Fast forward to today. I got the boat about a week ago. I went through the de-winterization I found in the owners manual and as near as I can tell it was not winterized. It has been stored in an heated garage for the last 6 years when not in use and I saw no evidence of any thing wrong. I had to charge the battery and clean the terminals a little but other than that if fired right up in my driveway with no problems. I ran it for approx ten minutes on two occasions (with a fake-a-lake) and did not notice the CEL, but it purred as well as I remembered.
I filled it up and added another treatment of Sta-Bil and put it on the water today at a local lake. It still ran well, however the check engine light was on. The boat never went into LIMP Mode nor did it have any misses or obvious issues. The lake was very busy and I never pushed it hard, top speed on the day was probably about 25MPH.
I realize that I am asking for someone to find a needle in a haystack, but if someone can point me in a most likely direction it would be most appreciated.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
Brian
