I've never torn down a full size marine engine and won't dare too, but have some questions on power output and longevity. I'm running Pete's old 2000 Epic 22. I bought it in 07. It's been virtually bulletproof engine wise. I'm starting to jones for a little more giddyup from my powerplant. I recently had 7 adults...none heavier than 200# and two were fit females 130# or less, full ballast front and rear and couldn't get on plane to wakeboard. I couldn't break 13-14 mph with boarder. We rarely have more than my wife, kids or my self and another wakeboarder so I've never had this problem. Boat's got 800+ hrs now. Regular maintenance by marina each fall/spring. 4 blade prop. Any ideas to improve performance? Has anyone had their engine torn down for a rebuild yet? Doubt I'll go that route before I buy another Epic. I just rode in a neighbor's Air Nautique with 5 adults, 4 kids, and lots of gear and was impressed with how it got us all out of the water. Got me thinking.
