GPS Speedometer on 1999 Epic 22
« on: October 04, 2010, 03:52:27 am »
Just purchased and installed a GPS conversion for my 1999 Epic 22.  Took less than one hour to read the instructions, install and calibrate.  Compared speeds to Iphone GPS and appears to be correct on the miles per hour as well.  Ran the GPS cable through the air circulating vent in front of the driver - no holes were drilled.  Quick tied all parts and did not have to remove the speedometers for an install.  The 1999 Epic has dual speedometers and the Master speedometer is calibrated on each 5 mph, starting at 15 and stops at 45 mph (initial calibration point was 11mph).  The Slave speedometer is slightly faster at about 1/3 of a mph.  This is really a great upgrade for $300 with the Garmin receiver and $39 for the twin speedo option.  Contact Cary Joiner @ www.nauticlaugic.com.  Yes, I have had my Epic since 1999 and one of the first ordered from Indiana.  This is a great upgrade to pitot tubes.  Cary said no maintence and no batteries to replace in the GPS as well.  And no, I am not a paid whore, just to trying to give helpful info like I have received on this forum!  Good luck and thanks for all the posts!

Update:  According to the Pitot calibration in my Epic 22 manual, the speedometers are to be set at 34-mph at 4,000 rpm.  With the GPS installed, at 4,000 rpm, the speedometer reads 34.5 mph.

Troy, do they have instructions for the Epic, or did you  just use generic instructions?
