i know this isnt a boat but its basically our motor in a car. had a 2002 Lexus ls 430 towed into the shop yesterday. blown radiator and multiple cam sensor codes and would not start. customer chose to throw a radiator in it and hope for the best. put the radiator in and of course it doesn't start. pulled a timing belt cover and sure enough broken timing belt due to a seized waterpump. most likely from overheating. did a cylinder leak down test and these were the results. remember this is the percentage of leakage.

cyl 1 35%
cyl 2 70%
cyl 3 48%
cyl 4 50%
cyl 5 100%
cyl 6 42 %
cyl 7 80%
cyl 8 60%

bent at least two valves in every cylinder. i didn't expect to see it that bad and Ive built a lot of engines.
if the customer chooses to tear it down ill post picks.
oh yeah cyl's 5 and 7 have noticeable valve marks on the pistons as seen through a bore scope.

Oh boy. It seems that the constant part causing major damage is the water pump.

Time to get serious about replacing it and the timing belt.\

I'll be doing mine this spring as she's all wrapped up for winter. Received all my parts from Rick a couple of weeks ago and was supprised to see plastic vanes on the pump when I flipped the aluminum body over.

thought id update this. removed the heads and to all the techs in our shops surprise it only bent the two exhaust valves on cylinder #5. the piston had marks on it, but nothing we thought would harm anything. i replaced the two valves and did a complete valve job and she ran like a champ! i have a couple pics but having trouble uploading them. if anybody wants to see them i can send via pics message to your cell. maybe someone else can figure out how to post them. oh yeah the water pump did not seize. the tensioner had seized during the last timing belt replacement and the tech just jammed it in and the belt had way to much tension and it eventually broke. i replaced the water pump and both pulleys as well as the tensioner. with 140,000 miles its best to do it right and not have to worry about it for another 100K
