Hourmeter

I am a newbie to this forum, I read lots of gauge related posts but couldn't find my answer. I am looking at purchasing a 2001 sx22. It is in very good shape from the pics anyway but it has a blank display so the hours are unknown. This boat is a 12 hour drive away and I want to know the hours. The current owner says it just needs the gauge replaced and he will knock that off the price. Judging by some other posts, I would be looking at all connections and adding redundant grounds prior to ordering any parts. I'm not afraid to figure it out and fix it but I don't want a high hour boat. If the gauge itself is dead does the replacement start with zero hours?
That aside, I am looking to do a lot of surfing, this boat has factory ballast and I plan to add some fat sacs. I have a Tige I am also looking at but I like the quality of anything Toyota and I wanna save fuel. Am I making the right choice going Yota?

Where is the boat located? Can you get us the HIN? We might be able to find some info on the boat's history.

I have a 2001 SX22.. I love it!

I think I know the boat you're talking about... Let us know what the HIN is and we'll go from there.

first off if this is a 2001 sx22 that is shockwave colors ( yellow main part purple and black rear) with a white rub rail, the boat sunk at lake powell and was salvaged, bought by someone is southern CA and they were unable to get all the bugs out of it and sold it across our northern border..........STAY AWAY unless your getting a smokin deal and don't mind dealing with a sunken boat. I'm an automotive technician and i personally wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. if its not that boat replace
the message center and you should be good, but I'm not sure if it will have the old hours it may start over. i know someone was looking at the salvage boat a few months ago, you might be able to find the post.

as for surfing the factory swim step will get in the way and give you a crappy surf. you will need to raise the platform ( i think johnnyB in texas did his and it worked out) or modify or make your own cut down platform ( someone with an sx has also done that and there are pics somewhere on the site.)

good luck thats the same model i have and im very happy with it.

I have a 2002 SX and love it.  Here is the swim deck modification (changed to teak and modified it) post.

My winter project this year was to automate my Fat Sacks for surfing.  I'll start a new post once I complete the winter project this week.

The MMDC hold in memory the hours when installed, it show on the digital dash. If you buy a new dash module you can read the hour meter. Some will reset without notice. The tach w hour meters can be set up to the old readings but requires equal amount of hours on a test module I have.
