clearance for boat lift
« on: March 28, 2012, 18:41:55 pm »
Does anyone know the actual clearance needed for the skags for a boat lift.  i purchased a new lift last fall and need to get a kit for ski boats.  just want to make sure it will have the proper clearance.  also i heard you want to use untreated wood for the bunks does that sound right?

Depending on the brand, I would say 10" for the skegs. More importantly is where does the propeller line up in relation to the rear cross-member.

Mine is a Hydrolift and we had to extend the space between the cross-member and the prop as it lined up directly on top of it.

"Untreated wood" Why? / You are covering it with carpeting or something to protect the boat right? / That means it will stay wet for extended periods. You need the pressure treated stuff.

thanks for the info.  it is for a epic 21.  i was talking to a boat lift dealer and looking to get a bunk kit.  they sell you everything but the wood.  he told me that you actually want to use untreated wood.  i though he was nuts but just seeing what everyone else uses.  was 75 here last week.  almost pulled out the dry suit.  missed my chance.  45 here today now :(
