Trailer Tire Recommendation
« on: April 23, 2012, 20:46:10 pm »
I had a tire shred on me yesterday and I am looking at replacing either one or multiple tires on the trailer. Wanted to see if there are any recommendations/suggestions on tire choices for the Trailer for an Epic21 --

::) Interested to see what others are using.

I have to replace all (5) on my trailer as they are dry-rotting. 13 years old at least but they don't go more than 3 miles a year...  :-[

The Goodyear Marathons that came on my trailer lasted quite a while, so I purchased them as replacements. The new ones did not follow suit. Two have already grenaded after only two years. I'm thinking about giving the Discount Tire ones a try (Towmaster, I think). Anybody have any experience with them?

We've got several years on our Goodyear Marathons and we put between 1-2 thousand on them each year.  Got them at Tire Rack.com for a good price.

Does anyone know how long these tires are supposed to last before dry rot becomes a potential problem?

Any tire any vehicle should be replaced every five years according to most tire manufactures. I got 6 out of my Marathons before I changed them with about 25k miles on them. I put Marathons back on the trailer. My trailer never sits in the sun except while the boat is in the water. Always keep your tires inflated to the max pressure as indicated on the sidewall.

Thanks for all the feedback. I ended up buying the 205/75R14 Power King Towmax STR from tirerack. Got 4 new tires to replace the aging existing ones.  The price was around $78 (about $20 less than the Goodyear Marathons). I will get them mounted this weekend and let everyone know how it goes.

I think the tries are made by Greenball.
