Toyota Epic on Moosehead Lake???
« on: July 08, 2004, 03:58:10 am »
When I was fueling at one of the only marinas with dockside gas(I don't trailer the boat), I found out from the guy at the pump that he has seen another Toyota on the lake.  When I asked him what the boat looked like, what he described sounded like an X22 or SX--tower and fancy graphics.  I should have left the web address  for this site, and told him to have the guy check in, but I didn't think of it until later.

So I thought I would ask--Any of you out there ever heard of/boated on Moosehead Lake in Maine?  If you ever have been there, you would know how shocked I was to hear there is another 'yota on the lake.

The lake is 40 miles long, but during the week, and most non-holiday weekends, you are lucky if you see 3 boats on the lake at any one time, let alone, another Toyota!

So if you're out there, self-identify.  Maybe we can get together some time.  And for the rest of you, if you are ever in the Northeast, and want to boat and board some of the cleanest, most pristine water you could ever want to see, let me know!

Hey Pete, as random as it may be, I have been to Moosehead Lake.  Especially strange since I'm from the other side of the country.  My family business has some strong ties to Maine and recently an opportunity came up to do our business back home -- a lake cabin about 40 miles north of Moosehead Lake came along with the deal. I really don't even remember the name of the lake the cabin is on, but it is so super small and remote that it probably wouldn't matter anyway. There are two cabins on the whole lake, ours and another that has been VERY vacant each time. Only way in and out is rough dirt logging roads or seaplane. If I remember correctly, Moosehead Lake was where we caught the float planes that took us to the cabin. We've only been there twice.  We slayed the whitefish and the bugs feasted on us.

I'm going to be in Portland for meetings this September, and am up there at least once a summer.  My brother works for our business out of Portland and I usually stay with him when I'm there.

I could be completely wrong about Moosehead Lake, but I swear that's where that family float plane operation is out of...??  With the really big dude and his daughter that run it??  And his old 1940's vintage ginormous seaplane that doesn't fly but looks really cool?  ...No?

Cal-

Sounds like you were at Moosehead, dude.  There are a number of seaplane outfits at the southern end of the lake (Greenville is the town).  Sounds like you flew with Folsom's.  They have the garden variety Cessna's that everyone has, a Beaver, (40's or '50's vintage with a single prop 8 or 10 cylinder radial engine), and then a DC-3 with pontoons on it, that actually does fly(see pix below I found on the net from last year's fly-in).  I've never seen it, but every year they have a huge fly-in in mid-september and supposedly he flies it then.  I'm usuall up there over the 4th of July each year, so if you're ever passing thru, or want to come up from Portland (or Auburn, Pete K.)stop on by.  We have skiis, tube, and Hyperlite wakeboard, and all the 60-mid 70's water you could ask for!!

Folsom's -- that's it!  Too funny. And yep, that's the plane I was referring to. Last time I was there (probably 3 of 4 years ago), I know it wasn't running. That's really cool.

So you're just up at Moosehead for the 4th?  Did I understand that right? Too bad Portland is so far from Moosehead...or I'd definitely take you up on that offer!  I'll be in Maine the weekend of Sept 27th for meetings. Will probably have a few days to play, but unfortunately no car... bummer!

Cal-

Me, and my family, were up there from 6/24 thru the 5th of July--the longest stay I've had in a long time.  I wish it was thru Sept 5th, but ya gotta work in order to take vacations.

I may actually be up there again around that time-- to pull the boat and winterize it.  Too bad you don't have a car its 'only' about 3 hours from Portland to Greenville.

By the way, I think they got the DC3 running about 3 years ago.  Take care.
