First time mooring for the season
« on: May 17, 2012, 20:09:04 pm »
I'm going to moor my boat for the first time ever.  Any tricks or things I should do to make sure bad stuff doesn't happen?

Check the rate that water is coming in the boat from the prop shaft.  I had to replace packing flange last year  because I could not reduce the rate that water was coming in the boat and if the billage pump were to fail it would not have been a good situation.

I kept my SX moored in the water last summer (and again this year). It didn't suffer at all! Just pull it out once and a while to give the underside of the hull a quick scrub to help minimize the scum line. It also helps to give it a quick scrub with a brush while you're floating in the middle of the lake.

One thing to keep in mind is that the factory cover will be sitting in the water at the rear. I modified mine to allow it to be used with a wet slip and it's worked great. Further info on my cover mods can be found in this thread:
