Give me a features list and Im in.  Sounds like EFILive for our boats, just without the tuning support (if you could do that, AWESOME!).  For $200 if I can read codes, record live data, reset readiness tests, and do any marine-specific tasks, Im in.

I may be the odd man out here but I know nothing about engines and would not know how to use it.  To be honest, I really don’t even know why all this data is important but can tell by other comments that IT IS.  So, because I intend on keeping my Epic 21 for as long as possible (love this boat!), I would buy this software so that if my boat needs repairs, I can let local mechanics use it to diagnose problems that might come up.  However, since this is software, will there be updates so that it runs on existing and upcoming Microsoft operating systems?  If so, will those updates be free?

ill try to do a quick update since i haven't posted since the original. the last month or so has been quite the roller coaster ride. software as well as hardware has changed and for the BETTER! This is more of a group buy, as I'm not involved with any manufacturer now. The software is now dealer level minus reprogramming. just to name a few features, it will read and erase codes, you can view freeze frame data from when the code set. live data, reset readiness and monitors, snapshot and graphing of data. active testing of outputs from the ECM. it auto completes vehicle info fields when hooking up ( sorry it wont say toyota epic, but it still auto loads a useable option), etc. there is really tons of stuff you can do with this thing. depending on configuration lexus and toyota fans will be VERY happy and it will even do generic functions on any obd2 vehicle.
 The hardware is really the hold up right now. the hardware is the connecting cable and has a chip in it to make all this work. we have tried one setup and I'm waiting for a second to arrive to test it. the first one would only work with windows XP, and the live data rate was slow. it would update about every 8000 ms...... after closing other programs, disconnecting from the internet, and shutting down your firewall, setting the program to priority we got it down to 800ms. we did try using it on windows 7 with an "XP virtual machine" i think its called and it worked. the hardware being sent to me should let us run on windows XP and 7. additionally it may get us in the 200ms data rate range. I'm no computer whiz so bear with me on details about operating systems. a friend is helping out there. we should be able to stick with the $200 price i talked about before. as far as warranty, at this price there isn't any. possibly 1 year on the hardware i don't know yet. software works like a charm and if it doesn't reload it or send it back to me. I've been using a different version of this software for about 5 years its awesome and I've never had an issue. You MUST follow the install directions word for word. if you install the cable and then try to load drivers and software it WILL fry the cable. DO NOT install the cable until all drivers and software are installed and it tells you its safe to hook up your cable. if they do offer us a 1 year warranty on the cable that is not covered!! so please just follow the directions

FYI warranty and support cost big money the alternative to this would be an initial cost of $1500 plus $1000 a year. and i honestly don't know if it would even work on our boats. It's your money folks I'm not gonna try to sugar coat it. it is what it is. I've been very happy with it even with the 1st cable.

Funny I was just talking to my mechanic who is about 500 miles away from me and he would ship his '"chip" to the Toyota dealership in my area and then I could bring my boat there.

That would be a pain! So a handheld device for $200.00 works for me.

First the software is dealer level minus reprogramming. There is a generic OBD2 feature for all other vehicles. Info and data on generic is limited due to the nature of it. It is not dealer level, but is still very useful. Here is a partial list of features

Vehicle connection wizard- auto populates vehicle info for you
View and erase current, pending, and history codes
View freeze frame data from when the code set
View and reset Monitors and readiness tests
Perform active tests
 
LIVE DATA- this is awesome i use it everyday.
Multiple preset engine parameter lists in live data, you can even make custom lists.
Graphing of live data- you can customize this too
Access to all ECM's - body, electrical,chassis, engine, etc
many more features i could go on and on.
It is extremely user friendly. i can also help directly on the forum.

OK on to the hardware, its a USB cable with a standard OBD2 connector that will plug in to a laptop or PC that you supply. It has a chip in it that makes all this work and its called a Vehicle Interface Module. VIM for short. You will be choosing between a Basic and Premium VIM.

This VIM will run on Windows XP, Windows Vista 32 bit, Windows 7 32 bit. It will ONLY work on 64 bit machines if you run it on a "XP Virtual Machine".

Both come with a one year warranty. They do not cover shipping costs. The VIM will not be covered under warranty if it is damaged (fried) due to improper installations.

Ok, so I only have 64 bit windows 7 on my laptop and my wifes laptop. Why is the 64 bit version so expensive? I have tons of 32 bit application running on my 64 bit OS?
