Can a change in prop flatten wake?
« on: July 14, 2004, 01:29:12 am »
I tried moving weight up to the very front of boat and this really helped flatten each side of the wake. I still have a big bump directly behind and I am thinking a prop change could fix this. Any ideas or shared knowledge is appreciated.

The boats make a pretty big roostertail, they IMHO don't make a good ski wake, (22 ft boats that is) I want a big wake anyway for wakeboarding.

I know there are several threads on here about people changing props, and there were comments about the change in the wake. Take a look around!

Thanks Cyclone for the reply! It looks like I have the OJ 3 blade 13 x 13, so I am ordering the Acme 543 with the 11.5 pitch. After some research and talking with people I believe this will help flatten the rooster tail. I hope. I will post the results.

It would be so cool if you could take the time to plot RPM versus speed at like 500 rpm intervals before and after the change. You'd need to use GPS too just to be for sure for sure (indicated's pretty damn far from actual in our boats except at the single speed they were calibrated at).

Sorry, I'm a freak. I'm sure a regular person would rather spend the time riding than 'collecting data'. But I'd love to review it while I'm stuck in a hut in Alaska for the next month ;-(

Everyone here that's tried it and my mechanic all rave about that Acme prop. I may try it, and Derek, I will plot speed vs. rpm.

Before and after, right Pete?

I'm just curious that maybe the 11.5 with cup might still be too much prop for a v-drive.
