Stereo cutting out questions?
« on: August 08, 2012, 17:24:16 pm »
Hey guys...thought I'd tap into the infinite wisdom of this website.  My problem...my stereo cuts out when you turn the volume up.  All I have is a pioneer head unit with 6 - 61/2" polk momo speakers in the boat that are ran off the head unit.  Any suggestions on what to do to fix this problem?

Also,  I am looking to upgrade the system this winter with a sub and tower speakers.  I would like to hear some suggestions on what to go with and where to mount the sub.  Pictures would be greatly appreciated also.

Thanks agian!

I had a similar issue in my 99 Epic 21.  It turns out that the radio gets its power from the same wires that feed the guages and accessories in the dash.  Try turning on the blower and nav lights and see if the problem gets worse, if so you likely need to run a larger gauge ground wire and/or power wire to the dash ( or just run dedicated power to the radio ).

Know Im late to the party on this one, but my 99 E22 does the same thing.  Did it with the factory Kenwood HU and with the Sony Xplod one I threw in a few years ago.

My plan is to rewire the stereo completely independent of the rest of the wiring and just use a relay triggered off the keyswitch for on/off.  I dont want to worry about it anymore!
