Epic 21 Wow!
« on: July 20, 2004, 14:25:50 pm »
Well, I finally did it, I bought a 1999 Epic 21.  I was a little uneasy about a used boat, but so glad I bought it!  My Epic is a 1999 Model and it had only 50 hours on it.  I have put apprx. 15 hours on it and cannot beleive how great this boat is.  A big thanks to Pete for some initial sorting out issues!  This forum is great!  Hopefully I can be some help to it!  There is no sense in rambling on about how great the boat is, you all know it already!  Hopefully the pics will post fine!  I am sending the boat to Tennessee next week for a custom tower install (www.newdimensiontowers.com)  after some research they seem to have the know-how and the stlyle I am looking for. (they will custom build from my drawings and pictures) The boat looks so sleek, I hate to mess it up with the wrong tower.   If anyone has any experience with them let me know! I will post some pics when they are done. Glad to be here, love my boat, enjoy the pics!

Dude, how stoked are you. That's a beautiful Epic.  It doesn't even look like it's been used -- the carpets are still plush!  Thanks for posting the pics, now get out there and put some hours on that thing!!  :)

I spent 12 hours at the lake Friday!  Now I am stuck in Dallas at a seminar, peeling burned skin off my back!  Can't wait to get the tower on!

First, sweeeet, clean boat there.

Second, while you're in Dallas, I suggest you head up to Phil Dill Boats in Lewisville and talk to Greg Gaudin (warranty writer). He will be able to get you a price on the Toyota tower. The new dimension towers look really nice, but they're darn near as spendy as our OEM tower. I found it nice to talk with a real life ex-Toyota dealer employee. In fact, he helped us get scans of some of the docs on Pete's How-To page.

Third, that's a sweet, clean boat. Needs ballast. And...being both smaller and DD, it should be a rocket, huh?

I will get to Phil Dill today, thanks for the name and advice.  I am really impressed with the strength of this boat, I have never experienced anything like it at launch!  Its accelleration is incredible!  I liked the New dimension tower because I could design it, and I liked the flush mounting to the boat, no big plates with multiple bolts.  I will check on Toyota Towers at Phil Dill, I don't know if there is even one availiable for the 21.

If you look back in past threads here, you'll see that Pete (Cyclone) is a big proponent of the factory tower. Pete is, well, the godfather around these parts and the tower's worth a look.

If I could change two things about my tower, it'd be straighter (mfr error that keeps it from being able to fold easily) and wider at the top. Newer boats/towers seem to be higher, wider and farther aft - the good thing about those traits is when it comes to the bimini and the shade it provides.

I do agree with Pete, though, if you can swing it, go with the OEM tower. I still think our towers look cool, but that's just MHO.

Congrat's on the new boat!!!  I'd offer you a ride will you are here in dallas but last saturday I hit somthing under water and bent up the new prop, bent the rudder, possible strut and drive shaft damage.  Luckily no damage to the hull.  I was 1 of 4 boaters that hit the same thing that we know of.  Needless to say it is at the shop (Waterski Boats Dallas, right next to phil dill) getting taken care of.

The boat looks like new, enjoy.

Went to Phil Dill today, spoke with Greg Gaudin.  Great guy.  He is checking on tower for my boat, just like for us, those Toyota guys are hard to get ahold of!

He did not seem real optimistic about the tower, but said he would get back with me as soon as he found out.  I ordered more rope cleats, picked up an impeller (if you are where you can get one, buy it!)  Now there are two spares in my boat.  (why do I live in fear of these?)

Hopefully he can find out something about the tower by Saturday, thats when I am scheduled at New dimension for my new tower.

Unfortunately, you might not hear back from Greg by Saturday. It took him several weeks to get my cushion to me, despite the fact that he talked to the dude at the Toyota parts warehouse and the guy was staring at the cushion. Can't be sure if that was Greg's bad or Toy's.

Glad to hear you went up there, though. That Lewisville is a super cool lake.

Lewisville is good to party on but if you wanna wakeboard on the weekend you better be out there by 6 am if you wanna ride for 2+ hours on smooth water.  Way too many boats with inexperienced drivers.

But if your gonna ride during the week I agree.  I live 2 miles from the nearest boat ramp on lewisville and I wouldn't move.
