Problems installing barefoot boom - Epic 22
« on: June 23, 2013, 20:06:11 pm »
Hi All,

I am wondering if someone else has already solved this problem.  I am trying to install a Skylon barefoot boom on my direct drive Epic 22.  The problem I am running in to is that the engine cover is too close to the pylon to get the clamp on the non-tapered part of the pylon.  There doesn't appear to be a way to shift the engine cover back away from the pylon.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dan

It has been awhile, however this is my story.    First I purchased a boom from one of the normal dealers. Then I ran into the same problem you are having now. At that point we returned the boom and called Barefoot International which made a clamp
that would fit with the correct clearance around the pylon with the motor box being closed. Well not as perfect fit as they said.
The solution we came up with is to make the brackets that off set the motor box 1" to the rear. (Modified "S" Hooks)   On the four mounting points of the motor box, orginally screws with black knobs, make a loop on one end of a "S" hook  and a post on the other. mounting screws go thru the loop with the other end being a post that will go into the spot where the screw orignally went thru. We also had to closely check the clearance at the front of the engine. 13 years and still having fun with it. Good luck....Curtis

Excellent.  I figured out how to remove the motor box last weekend when I was at the boat.

Unfortunately, I bought a used skylon barefoot boom and now realize that it doesn't actually fit a Toyota pylon.  I guess Toyota made pylons with a diameter of 2 3/8ths inches instead of the standard 2 1/2 inches.  Great.

So, the only option I am aware of is to buy a barefoot international boom.  Still, it is good to know that a boom can be put on the boat.
