darn guages
« on: July 01, 2013, 18:06:43 pm »
Here is a new one, or at least for me:

Here is what happens:

Turn on power to the dash (green key) dash makes reving noise for a few seconds as it normally does. turn the ignition key to on, dash emits a BEEP (normal) and the control gauge(far left multiple gauge) revs for 1 second and cycles on and off every 1 or so seconds. no reading but the needles bounce slightly. Also the digital control(far right) does not come on at all.

I checked all the connectors underneath and unplugged and replugged. turned the power key off and waited a few minutes and turned back on to cycle the dash. made sure the ground wires were tight.

The battery was low yesterday after being dormant all winter(first time out this year, sadly)as I tried to fire the engine but not enough to turn the motor over so I charged it all night but I had the power key ON while i did this. I fear i may have fried my gauges.

The engine cranks and runs like a champ after a full charge and I can tell the battery is fully charged. radio works, horn works, all accys work.

I'm probably due for a new battery so that is my next move.

Anything  I missed? The battery seems really strong when i crank the boat which is why i think it might not be the battery. I think i have a volt meter I can check the battery with.

Please help. I MUST hit the lake this week.

Update: I gave it one more chance after switching the battery key off for about 30 minutes and all systems are normal. The lesson is that it takes several minutes for the dash to recycle. more than 3 or 4 minutes.

It might be because you charged the battery with the green key on.  Because the gauges are so fussy when everything is right, I take the battery out off season and put on a battery tender.

So glad it all worked out, I thought I was the last one on the water this year, June 16th.  Hopefully it will be a long season.  Lake Keowee is at Full Pool so far all season.  How are the lakes in Atlanta?

Hartwell is 4.5 ft OVER full pool with more rain expected today. The rock wall I have been slowly building over the years is pretty much wiped out by the high water and wake boarders but I have gotten too old to care! Probably will not re-build. My electrical junction box on the shore side of catwalk being underwater - that one I care about so I need to address...

My electrical issue that has been a slight annoyance for years has become a legit problem this year. Mainly involving the audio system. I will start a thread instead of hijacking Les' if it turns out to be more than loose/dirty connections...
Don't be so humble, you're not that great.

If I were you I would call the guy you bought it from and get my money back!

(And you are not too old)

Maybe just for fun we should start talk of another roundup...who would have ever though anyone would say
"The lakes are too full!"
