S22 Factory Ballast Schematics?
« on: August 15, 2015, 00:09:20 am »
Hello All,

I've recently purchased a 2001 S22 that came with factory ballast, bags in trunk, not hard tanks.  The problem is that the pump was disconnected, and I was given a pile of sacks and some tubing when I purchased it.  I'm trying to figure out how it all goes back into the boat, and have been unable to locate any sort of diagram showing how that's done.  There are 3 sacks, seems like too many, and a ton of hoses.  I'm also pessimistic that the sacks will even hold water as they're 14 years old at this point.  Any help pointing me in the direction of ballast re-installation instructions would be hugely helpful!  May also need to purchase replacement bags if those exist...

Thank you,

Dana

Hi Dana,

Do you have an S22 or an SX22? The SX was the only v-drive with factory ballast. It consisted of two hard tanks located below the floorboards running from the stern to bow - One on either side of the gas tank.

Likely you have some sort of homemade or after market ballast system. Where is the water intake? Where and what kind of pumps? Typical ballast systems on these types of boats consist of bags in the rear compartment on either side of the motor, and one in the bow walk way.

Send us some details on what your boat has and maybe we can help you figure it out. Pics of the boat/ballast system will help to!

Hi Supraman,

It is a 2001 S22, not an SX22 with the built in hard tanks.  It is a V-Drive, has a small fill/empty switch above the throttle lever.  It came with 3 bags, 2 smaller blue ones, and 1 massive grey one, that almost seems like a bag within a larger sack.  The grey one doesn't look like there's any way it would fit in any of the rear compartments, and the blue ones don't look like they'd fit in the compartments to the side of the motor, but also too small to fit in the rear ski locker.  The pump is mounted against the motor/ski locker dividing wall, to the bottom right when facing backwards, and there is a hole cut to the ski locker for tubing to run.  Please see attached photos, I'm really having trouble piecing this puzzle together.

Thanks!

Well, you have a water puppy reversible pump, some hose, a check valve and three sacks. I think the blue ones are side sacks, meant to lie on either side of the enginein a direct drive.

The big one looks like a locker sack, goes in ski locker.

It doesn't look too difficult to figure out how it goes together. Looks like a home built system.
