I've been wakeboarding for a long time and very recently went in on a 2001 Epic S22 with some family. I took it out with a buddy who is also an avid wakeboarder and we brought a few of his ballast bags to dial it the wake. We ended up putting about 400 lbs in the alleyway between driver and bow seats and another 400lbs near the back seat. This gave us an epic wake (pun intended) which allowed us to get inverted and do everything we normal do on his boat which is much newer and pricier. After a few runs we switched to surfing and attempted to dial in that wake. We used a similar weight set up but put the ballast bag on the port side bench seat which again gave us the desired result. After two riders took a moderate ride surfing the boat began to give us a temp warning running at about 198. We immediately shut her down and let her breath before trailering and heading home for the day. My concern was that we only had 4 people on the boat, were on the lake about 4 hours, with a total running time of maybe 2-2.5 hours. Shortly after, we planned on take the boat on a week long lake trip, so I went ahead a changed the impeller. When the old impeller didn't seem too warn I decided to keep the ballast bags out of the boat for the trip and she ran like a champ without ever getting above 180 degrees. We also had up to 8 people on the boat at a time, all taking long wakeboard rides, in outside temperatures over 95...
Unfortunately I'm now unsure of what exactly fixed the problem. Hoping for some guidance as to what the boat can handle and if anyone has found a ballast bag setup that can give a decent wake at a speed closer to 22-23 mph opposed to 18-19 mph. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
P.S. First time posting.. be gentle haha
