Switch Prop rotation?
« on: September 19, 2015, 18:57:27 pm »
Hi I am fairly new to this forum, just got a epic sx at the beginning of this summer.  We have been successfully surfing with the boat on the port side with no roap,  about 700 lbs in the port locker,  350 in the port factory ballast and 600 up front in the walkway.  I have noticed the wake is much more impressive on the starboard side do to the prop rotation.  I have also noticed while the boat is reverse the boat has a noticeable whine noise to it.  My question is If I was to switch the prop and the throttle linkage on the transmission to change rotation, would there be a whine noise in forward?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chad

If you rotate the linkage at the shifter from one side to the other side that reverses the rotation of the transmission.  The transmission is a fully reversible transmission the wine is normal under 1000 RPM they all make a little noise and rattles.
There is a list of propellers available if you have a left-hand you can order right hand if you have a right hand you could order a left-hand .

Go Acme. It "fixes" the SX driveability issues with weight in boat. I had incorrect prop on my boat, 13x13 lh four blade is correct for S22 but not for SX.

Switched the prop to a 4 blade, and the rotation on my DDrive over 500 hours ago. No problem.
Easier to pull up to a dock on the drivers side.

Curtis,

Was it just as easy as switching the position of the shifter cable at the handle?

Any performance changes? Does the transmission still whine at low speeds?

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I do have a ACME prop already on the boat.  Not sure exactly what one without looking.  It seems to pull very good though with 6 people and 2000 lbs.
Guess the question is can the v drive even have the rotation changed?  Or is it even worth my time and money.

Changing the cable was easy except for the position of my body. The best way is to release the whole panel assembly, two 11 mm bolts  on the forward end and a phillips or 11 mm toward the rear. Phillips head on my E22-'99,  11 mm on my E22-'00. Small needle nose pliers to pull the pin that hold the cable and reassemble on the opposite side. No adjustment was necessary, Once you open it up you can see how the mechanism works. No performance issues, Yes the Hurth tranny still whines at low RPM.
