Depth sounders
« on: August 17, 2004, 23:12:33 pm »
I want to put a depth sounder in my Epic 21.  Anyone have any advice?
I went to order one from Overtons and want to know if I should use an "Inside mount transducer" or a "Transom mount transducer"  by the way, it is a Hummingbird depth sounder.  Anyone have any experience or suggestions?  Thanks,

Bill ???

The  'factory' depth finder in our '99 E22 is a Lowrance, and it has an internal transducer that mounts on the floor(hull) of the boat on the starboard side just  to the right of the stuffing box.

I'd recommend that because it's easily accessible there, will make the wiring simpler, and most importantly, will eliminate having to punch any holes in your transom for the wiring or mounting screws.  It seems pretty accurate, and always seems to work, so I don't know of any reason of mounting it outside(unless you have a temperature pickup and you want to know what the surface temperature is of the water.

I don't really care about water temp as long as it is smooooth!  I am not interested in drilling any holes in the hull either!  Thanks for the advice,

I purchased the humminbird sounder.  All Humminbird depth sounders come with a transom mount transducer.  Humminbird has what's called a transducer exchange program.  When you get your depthsounder, you mail them the transom mount transducer, and they mail you back whatever transducer you require at no cost.  A good idea, but really slow service
