Scary way to end my season need help diagnosing
« on: September 06, 2016, 03:06:12 am »
we were literally out for the last time today when we stopped tubing the boat was just idling.  then it sounded a little strange and I could smell something hot.  I stopped the boat immediately and noticed steam and that "hot" smell.  I felt both of the exhaust manifolds and they were cool and then I noticed that the hose that came down from the thermostat housing to the port exhaust manifold was completely severed.  not pulled was like a loose clamp like it was complexly cut.  this is a hose that I replaced when I did my timeing belt this year.  nothing against captain rick but it as a new hose from him.  I have seen hoses split have holes but nothing like this.  because I didn't want to run it with a split hose I don't know how it will run.  this wouldn't be any back pressure from the manifold would it?  ill get a picture of it.  but it literally like the hose popped.

Wow, that is crazy    :o   it looks like it was cut or ripped . I don't think back pressure would have done that. If you turn it off right away, you should be OK.

that is the scary part.  it is out of the water for the winter.  I thought maybe a clog somewhere but I would assume it would just send more through the other manifold.   strange that my sea strainer was pretty clean too.  thought it maybe something was clogged but that wouldn't burst there.

I have no idea.  I don't know how it could have.  the cover was secure.  I would have thought it would have torn then alarms but I wont know til I get up there and replace it and see what happens.  literally happened on the way to take the boat out for the summer.   so I guess good timing?

The cut hose should be secured to above hose in the picture, with a zip tie or something. The red chip marks on the edge of the pulley tell you that's how the hose was cut. pressure or heat wouldn't cause that type of cut or tear. It happens to the best of us. When you have an issue, the mostly likely cause is the recent work done in that area.
