Block drain fitiings
« on: September 02, 2004, 02:21:12 am »
My 99 Epic 22 has two drain fittings, one on either side of the block, to drain for off- season storage.  The drivers side takes a 10mm socket and the passenger side a 14mm.  As good as this engine is these fittings suck!!! Every year I have to overtighten them to stop leakage.  I have winterized my boat already and want to replace these.  They appear to be standard pipe threads.  I have located brass fittings at my local Lowes to replace them.  I'm concerned whether these will be compatible with the aluminum block.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks! 8)

I agree.  Ours does the same thing.  The one on the starboard side is much more difficult to get at, and shut off completely.  I hope someone out there has found a suitable replacent.  I'd love to get a petcock fitting, similar to a gas shutoff on a motorcycle.  Anyone out there done any retro-fitting??

I'm pretty sure mine are both the same size, but I could be wrong.... maybe this is something they changed?
