Ameritrail bad weld on tongue
« on: September 23, 2004, 19:26:56 pm »
While moving the boat, my son noticed one of the welds on the tongue was cracked quite a length up.  While I can re-weld it, my concern is two fold.  First, will I need to watch for other welds to crack and has anyone noticed cracked welds on their trailer.  I thought this was one of the best trailers I had seen in a long time, what with the latching system for the boat's front "D" ring.  Now, I'm not so sure.

The trailer is very well made, check out some other trailers you might see. I bought mine new and have fouir years and five seasons on it. I have torn chunks out of my fence every year with it, and bent the fenders, etc, but it is still holding up. I'll bet Ameratrail would warrantee it, something like that. You should call them, Sandy (Sandbag) posted their number on here a long time ago.

Yeah, if it's Ameritrail, it's good stuff. And anything done by humans can fail - trailer welds included. Ameritrail can be reached at: (407) 892-1100.

Well, my son and I ground down the bad weld area on the tongue and welded it so the rest of the trailer may break, but that weld won't, so I am confident it will outlast me.  Noticed the area was bondo-ed over to produce a nice smooth, clean looking joint, just a nice measure to creat a nice looking joint.  Now I need to find some matching red paint to try to make it look (half) as good looking as the orginal.  Any one know where I might find the matching red paint?
