Drips out of the Drive Shaft
« on: June 01, 2022, 15:49:33 pm »
I think I may need to adjust or replace my drive shaft seal.  My boat is taking on a little more water than it should, and the bilge pump has to kick on a few times an hour when sitting without the engine started.

Any suggestions on where to start?  Is this a pretty standard thing to do? What are the advantages and disadvantages of going dripless?

i did my e21 a couple years ago.  it was a PINA to get the old packing out.  you have almost no room and you have to be careful not to scratch the shaft when doing so.  i am not sure how well the dripless ones work on these but should be ok.  did you try just giving a small turn on the nut?

Where is this nut, is it under the boat next to the drive shaft? Or is it in the engine compartment?
