toyota lettering on vinyl
« on: September 28, 2004, 05:14:06 am »
wondering if anyone is having issues with the raised toyota lettering on the center rear seat back peeling off?  I have lost both T's from mine, so now it says "oyo a"  Is this a warranty item, or should I just super glue them back on, I do have them safely stashed away.

Great minds..... I'm curious too. That logo right there is one of my favorite things about the boat's look. Like it shows up in every picture, everybody in the boat sees it, it's just pimp. One of mine is starting to peel, and that just can't happen.

So what kind of glue to use? I'm sure there are still a bunch left over (in the system).

Yes, I , too have lost 2 letters,. Anyone know where to get replacment letters? I think I may need to buy a vowel.

Plus, I'm EXTREMELY skeptical to squirt super glue or epoxy on it because that could make an irreversible mess....

last year I had a letter starting to peel and I put some super glue under the corner.  I can't remember which letter it was, but I know it wasn't one of the T's that I now hold (literally).  I thought for an entire letter replacement i'd best be sure to do it right.
I'll ask the boat shop guys, but our local shop (castle Rock Marine) $ell$ pontoon boats and inflatables, so not sure if they'll be a very good resource.

FUNNY you should ask. Mine fell off this summer, with a little help from my pals 4yr old. The letters (47$) have hot glue adhesive on the back, and are supposed to be applied with an iron from the BACK side. I didn't feel like going through all that, so I used contact cement. They have stayed on for 2 mos. so far. I applied it to the backs of the letters and to the seat with a toothpick, then stuck them on the seat. They came out OK, I could have gotten them a little straighter. Definitely keep the old ones. I got the new ones through Toyota via Atlanta Marine, it took a couple of tries.

Of course, I took pics of it all and will post them when I get home.

I've got the opposite problem.  My state boat license sticker has expired and my new sticker says to remove the old one before sticking the new one on.  Of course, it doesn't suggest how to do this and the old sticker doesn't want to come off.  I don't want to use a tool to scrape it off and scratch the boat.  Any suggestions?

Well, the old blow dryer trick worked.  I just heated up the sticker and it peeled right off.
