Engine Heat Shield
« on: July 15, 2022, 13:04:05 pm »
Out of curiosity, what does the cover on the top of the engine do? Is it strictly for looks? Is it to keep the engine heat away from the padded cover? The holes on mine recently broke thru and I am trying to come up with a way to repair it.

I can see the one on the front of the engine been of value as it covers the front moving belts and pulleys from any curious passenger.

Your thoughts.

As far as I can tell it's for looks. I've never heard of it serving a mechanical purpose.

The inboards had 2 plastic shields required by Toyota Legal to prevent injury if a person came in contact with moving or hot parts. The vdrive only had the shield on the top of the engine. This was for looks. It causes moisture and rust on the top of the engine. I removed mine. and leave the motor box after running open until the engine cools off.
