Two DECC questions
« on: August 03, 2022, 21:18:31 pm »
Hi all, happy mid-summer! It would be great if one of you experts on DECC's could answer a couple questions for me.

1) Will a Ballast Control DECC function as an accessory switch DECC?

2) If my switches went out after a very low battery voltage situation, where is the damage, in the 6 switch panel or the DECC?

Hope these questions are not too stupid, but I am certainly not an electrical expert. The boat is running amazing as long as I don't need a bilge pump (or nav lights, blower, ctsy lights, etc).

Thank you for any answers! And yes, I am highly interested in some of the elegant solutions to failing DECC's, including Pete's touch screen! I do happen to have access to a ballast control DECC and a new switch panel though, so that might be quickest if it works.

Thanks! Steve

QUESTION IS :

THE REPLAYS ARE NEEDED TO REVERSE OR OPEN AND SHUT VALVES AND PUMPS.

WHAT IS YOUR HULL ID AND DO YOU HAVE A SWITCH PANEL MOUNTED NEAR THROTTLE. Or is it part of the 10 or 12 button dash ?

Pete uses relays. I use a direct switch to a pump or valve/ I dont like to advise on our ballast the best way to control it.

Capt Rick

The ballast systems on our boat SUCKS.

Capt Rick, thank you for the answer, but I don't think I asked the question very clearly. I don't want to do anything with my ballast (I built in a ballast system that works really well, and doesn't use any of the toyotamarine ballast system). What I meant to ask was:

To fix my broken accessory switches/DECC, would I be able to swap in the DECC that comes with the factory ballast system, for my normal accessory DECC? Are they the same DECC? I just happen to have a Ballast DECC that I am not using. If you can answer that question, then thank you!

Then the ballast is separate DECC controller and set of relays.

Replace all with petes electronic and new relays.

I’m Pete and I make a drop in replacement touchpanel system to replace decc electronics.

The orig decc boxes are flash programmed for the application and that is no longer available. Ricks’ switchpanel is great when you have a few options and want simple rock-solid reliability. If you require advanced function like heater, hatch, ballast controls, or want internet connectivity, my system is the right choice. They are similar in price.

There’s stickies on the Announcement page that describe both systems. There’s been other home-brew solutions, they are in the threads related to Decc problems. Deccs have been problematic since day one.
