Winterizing-thermostat
« on: October 02, 2004, 00:12:02 am »
Fellas, we are having our first freeze tonight in Northwest Iowa.  I started to winterize the boat last night, but ran out of sunlight to get done.  I have everything done except letting the water out behind the thermostat.  The bottom nut is hard to get at with a 12 mm wrench and it seems like I am just going to stripe the nut.  I was wondering how serious the drainage of the thermostat is with this Toyota?  Any info would be great.  Thanks

I didn't pull the thermostat the first year, and it got down to 10 deg or so a couple of nights. There is a transfer tube under the intake manifold that holds a little water, but if the rest of the block is drained you should be fine.

Thanks for the information.  I ended up getting the bottom nut off after I posted this question.  Everything was done according to your How_To link.  I appreciated it very much and the pictures came in very handy when I was trying to figure out where things were.  Thanks again for your input.
