Guys

I want to get something straight here.  I am not associated in any way with this boat.  Cal, I did not take the pictures that I posted.  They were sent to me by this Jason in Utah.  I just had them on file and posted them.  Again I originally thought this was a good deal that someone should check up on.  But after hearing what you all found out, I now realize it would not be a good purchase.  I just wanted to let you all know that I have NO association with this boat and the sale of it.

Hey mvermeer, I apologize... I just read through my post and realized that sounded like an attack on you.  Not the case at all, and I''m sorry it came out that way.

My skeptical comments were just geared towards EOS boats.  Everybody here knows I hate that Jason guy, and am only skeptical about his molds.  And I did not mean to imply that you were affiliated with him...I know you're not -- I just meant to set the record straight on this boat.

Probably should have thought about the implications of the wording before I posted.  Again, I'M SORRY!!!

so to clarify it all, for my small brains sake, Jason had this Epic (probably an SX, due to the options, ballst, etc.) and he took it apart to duplicate the mold for his EOS boats.  Bitzco and I were trying to get a look at the EOS when we were over there last summer, but never hooked up.
So what do you guys think about having Marine Products look the boat over?  THey still do a lot of work on the yotas and since we know them, could give a pretty objective analysis of Jason's boat.  Is it worth anything at all?  If he was already willing to go down to 20500, maybe someone could get a great deal.  Again, if it checked out ok?  Is my wishful thinking dominating my logic?
pse advise.....

It is definitely the EOS clone boat. In one of the pictures, you can see the EOS under construction behind it. I wonder if Jason would let it skip on over to Marine Products for a looksee. It would be very interesting to have someone who really knows them look it over and see if it really was taken apart. I have no speculation about buying it because it is cheap. It is about 10K or so less than you can get another SX for. I just dunno. Would I buy a disassembled and put back together Lexus auto. I doubt it under current circumstances, but maybe if I was cash poor and it checked out well. The problem is that I'd be worried about it breaking down forever after. Maybe yer potential buyer could have marine Products look it over. Scary to me though.

Cal

Sent you a PM.  That is alright about your previous post.  I have been in the same situation before with my wife.  She says something that lights a fuse in me and I spat off without thinking about what I am saying.  Then after it is all over with, I realize that I should have thought before I spoke.  But the only thing that can be done is to forgive and forget.

Don't rule out that SX that I posted just because it is an east coast boat. It is clean as a whistle, you could get it shipped for 1k or so, trailer and all by truck. It is the cheapest and cleanest SX I have seen so far, and it is totally optioned out. The guy is near Raleigh, NC and is the original owner. It was stored inside and is perfect from what I know, and it was serviced by the big Epic dealership in NC since new.

I would buy it right now if I wasn't going to take a bath on my Epic22 (high hours:)

I think you could get it shipped cheaper, call around. Or, fly out, rent a truck, and drive back for about the same or more money. Still, you would  come out about 5k ahead of what that boat is going for on the west coast, 34k with 500 hrs. This one is 27.9k @ 105 hours and the guy is ready to deal.

Thanks so much for your info. Perhaps I am too naive. My question is what could go wrong with the boat if it has been disassembled, and later put back together lke this one in Utah may have. Surely EOS is using a different engine, and you can't rip apart the hull. If the price is right and every system works, what is wrong with buying it?
Thanks.

I don't get the big deal either.  Of course, my specialty isn't in tearing boats down, duplicating parts, and reassembly, but most of it seems pretty straight forward. ???

Nine out of ten headaches in boat ownership result from fit and finish issues. Doors aligning, hatches fitting, latches catching, windshield and other panels coming loose and rattling. (I know first hand that the S22/SX upholstery alone is quite tricky to get out and then back in correctly.) Also, almost all of the attachments in our boats are stainless screws into fiberglass - these are not too hard to strip out. In short, even if these guys are skilled, they'd have to also be VERY careful and patient and use lots of TLC to keep the parts in good shape. All from a guy who's blatently stealing the design owned by a MEGA-FRIGGIN-MONSTROUS-MOTHER-OF-ALL-CORPORATE-GIANTS corporation.

The other headache is mechanical, and at the very least, you're gonna have to get the engine aligned and hopefully they did a real good job preparing and sealing the thru-hull fittings or you'll be fighting leaks the whole time. I've got an annoying one in the trunk, and my stuff's never been taken apart.

I say send Bitzy, the Toyota Poser Sleuth down there for a detailed inspection. And who knows, maybe you could own exhibit A, a 22-foot piece of evidence. Maybe just wait until it's the last Epic on earth, then take it for a test drive and do the right thing - scuttle it.

IndyNick's definitely looks like its worth taking a look at.  That thing looks nice... but I think you're in Cali and IndyNick is in Indy, so that could be a little difficult.  Boattrader.com has been light on Epic listings lately.

If you're in the market for an E21, there is a nice one with a tower and ballast system installed for $21k in Seattle, at SkiMasters.  It's listed on boattrader.  When I was in the market and talking to SkiMasters, it seemed like they had a lot of flexibility on their prices...so who knows what they'd let it go for.
