Forgive me if this seems like a stupid question, but did they make a 2002 Epic, or am I seeing a typo?

We've seen several like that. I'm sure TMS was building boats late into 2001, and those surely wouldn't be carrying the 2001 model year, would they?

ps. Glad to see you guys back. Come to Cali and we'll ride ;-)

They did sell a few boats as 2k2 models, they had some with Gravity Games logos in late 2001. They have funny looking little board racks on the towers. I saw one in shrink wrap at the Santa Rosa, Ca. dealer in Oct 2001. It was still in shrink wrap, I think they were sending it back to the factory. They wouldn't show it to me and wouldn't even acknowledge that they had one, but I saw it sitting on the back of their lot from the freeway. I did grab this postcard, it was all the literature that they had for the boats.

Toyota alienated a lot of dealers right away, they really shot themselves in the foot for selling boats. My dealer said that they dropped the line because they could only get five boats a month, and couldn't keep one on the lot. I don't know if that's really true or it's just what they told me so I didn't freak when I found out they didn't sell the boats anymore. I heard that they only sold 60 boats in 2001, no dealer network to speak of. There were only about 15 dealers to start with.

Since they had just cut the ribbon on the new factory in July 2001, I wonder when production was moved to the new factory. I heard a rumor that they had some production problems right around the time they pulled the plug. Here's another shot, somebody posted these a while back, I'm pretty sure this is a 2002 boat. It doesn't have the funky board racks. The factory ones have a middle fork that is shorter than the outside ones.

Hey 5" of new snow here,
Yes, they did make some 2002 models The dealers wanted to stock
more boats. But, Toyota wanted to build a quality product. The last thing was 9-11, it hurt the industry as a whole.

The photo Pete re-posted is my 2002 SX.  Additional photo's can be found under the photo tab.  I've seen one other 2002 SX (yellow, black colors) at Bear Lake in northern Utah last summer.

Bitzy, come on. Cover that up with your boat cover. Some of us are trying to keep an appetite. No wake is worth that.

My dealer told me a story, true or not...I don't know.  Anyhoo, Toyota made forklifts for a few years back in the day.  There was little interest, and sales where poor enough to put an end to production.  Years later  those who had bought Yota forklifts were screamin' for more. Toyota saw the demand was big enough to resume production.  Now these forklifts are commonplace.

The question is......who do we make a fuss too?  I could use an 07' with a 4.7

I'll make a fuss for a new epic.  With the sky-rocketing prices on new mC's, Malibus, etc., you'd think a smart price point and a great product would be a no brainer, especially with experience gained from one go-round already.
I'm gonna look for a yota contact page and start filling it up with inquiries.
I'll letcha know...

I purchased one of the 2002 models.  Here is the story that I heard.  Toyota built one boat of each model, primarily for the 2002 promotional material.  Hull is a 2001, but the interior material and exterior stripping if different.  I guess since this was a brochure boat it came loaded with upgraded stereo, cruise control, gps, remote controlled hydraulic engine compartment lift, dock lights, etc.  In the brochure this boat is shown without a tower, but it arrived with a tower installed.  When I committed to the purchase there was very little information about the boats only that they were deep discounted and I had to accept it like it was.  Sort of scarry but I could not pass up on the price.  They gave me all the 2002 promotional material and a lot of 2001 promotional material including a sales video.  I would insert photo's but not sure how to.
