more epic???????????'s
« on: May 21, 2003, 16:56:21 pm »
On my epic, i havent had a chance to take it out yet, my first day on the water with it will be saturday. what does the speedo plus and minus switches do, what are they for? is it some type of cruise control? And is it possible to find service manuals for the 2000 epic 22? and what is the best weight combo for a killer wake? thanks for all your help.

For wake set up check out my post on best wake set up for the X22 we have spent a lot of time getting that right.  There is some other info here on the board to get manuals.  As for the speedo: do you have the millennium dash?  We have the accuski installed.

I have a 2001 SX.  It only has one pick up for the speedo.  It runs through the digital Millenium dash/computer.  The venturi pickup occasionally gets clogged.  The line can be blown out by detaching it from the computer and blowing.  My speedo went out last year and I had to replace the computer.  It has run fine since, but I forgot how to calibrate it.  I usually just use a hand held gps which I have velcroed to the dash.  They are $100 and work great.  I run my accuski wakeboard edition on RPM as it won't hold 21 mph on speed mode.
Does anyone else have accuski?

Finner,
The + - switches are for calibrating your speedometers.Once you get going in your boat, push the switches and you'll notice the speedometer moving up or down depending on how you select.

Please, let's talk more about accuski.  We put one in late last summer and I cannot get the dang thing to work well.  On top of not holding the speed the other issue is small...but huge when it comes to accuski and that is that the "alarm" for low oil pressure blinks on and then your toast for accuski until you start over.  I swear I would pay someone to make this work right.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Accuski is supposed to have an upgrade for speed based control rather than RPM. It requires that you send your MDC box to them to recalibrate. I hear that they can also upgrade to the paddle wheel speedo's. As for the oil pressure, replace your sending unit. They are currently replacing senders with ones that are calibrated 10lbs too low as normal oil pressure is 110 lbs and sets off the high alarm.

Thanks for the info I will contact Accuski.  My oil pressure has always had the opposite issue...too low.  I have never had it alarm for too high.  Is it the same issue with the sender?

Yes. I have the same alarm now and am going to replace mine. It is the second one I have had fail, I think it is due to the unusually high oil pressure of the Lexus motor.

So do I call Atlanta Marine? or Toyota directly?  Can I replace it myself?

I have the same problem with my oil alarm and accuski.  Where can I get a new sending unit?  Can I replace it myself?  My dealer isn't helpful.
The new accuski won't work at 21 mph on speed based control.  I even moved the computer closer to the pick up and it didn't help.  I don't think a paddle wheel is available.

It is a typical oil sender, screws right in below the oil filter. I am sure it is an off the shelf Toyota part. It would be an easy five minute fix. I'll look at my replacement one tommorrow for markings.

Finally got our Epic 22 this weekend.  Wow! What a great boat.  Runs great, sounds awesome, even handles the rough water well.

Two issues:
1-Pretty strong smell of gas in the bilge--looks like the plugs on incoming and outgoing side of the fuel filter are damp.  Anyone have a smell of gasoline in their boats?  I'm believing this is abnormal.

2-Oil Pressure, when underway runs in the 80 psi range on our boat,, however, when is has been idlling  for a while, the pressure guage swings between 15 and 40 psi.  Every once in a while there is a rattling noise that comes from the engine area.   Not sure if this is just the same oil pressure guage thing  like above or something worth pursuing further...

you should definitely fix any gas leaks. You probably just need to tighten and/or use teflon tape on the fittings.

I think you have a bad oil sender just like the rest of us! I'll find a part number, see if I can cross it to an automotive part to save some money.

Agree that any fuel smell is bad. Over Memorial Day a pair of betties were horribly burned by an exploding engine. Lake Havasu, and the girls were lying on the engine cover (like our Epic V-drive boats).

FYI... We've got an '03 Sequoia, and when people ride in the truck they crap about the low oil pressure during idle and low RPMs. It's normal in the 4.7L and I'd expect the same behavior in the 4.0L.
