closed colling system
« on: March 10, 2005, 16:14:30 pm »
Occasionally I see references to a closed cooling system for Epic?s, but have not seen any sources for either an after market or OEM system.  I am interested in at least looking to install one.  Any hints here?  :-\

These guys sell them, and I'll be that Capt Rick can come up with part numbers for the Epic one, I'll bet it was off the shelf. I don't really know anything about them, or what it would take to interface to a 1UZ engine. Anyone have one? pics would be nice.

The factory kits are
MEH0011108   FreshWaterCooling,CompleteKit,DirectDrive   $865.21
MEH0011109   FreshWaterCooling,CompleteKit,V-Drive(VD)   $783.54
There is also a need on the DD to have the battery switch style with the green key.

That's pretty cheap, considering it's ready to go. Whats the green battery switch with key thing?

I saw Les's switch with green key, why is that necessary vs. a perko?

1999 DD Model Year Parts
To fit a 1999 model with a Perko switch, replace and order the following two items.
Roca Battery switch ? MBA0011230   Bracket ? MHH0011602

Installed and tested toyota the heat exchanger on my 99 epic 21.  Works great and held engine temp at just over 160.  Perko switch had a welded bracket that I did'nt want to cut off, so I routed the hoses around it.  Still need to router in a notch for the big plastic rain fly to fit over the coolant fill tube, then the job will be complete.

Hey Karl, how about posting some pictures for us to get an idea what the cooling (yea, I can spell, I just can't type  ???) heat exchanger looks like installed.

Don't  have a digital camera so it'll take me a while to get some pictures. The setup is pretty clean.  The Toyota closed loop cooling kit includes an aluminum cradle.  The cradle holds the heat exchanger and the whole thing is mounted underneath the front of the motor.
