Adding fat sacs to SX
« on: April 27, 2005, 23:49:06 pm »
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for adding a few fat sacs to the SX. I already have the under-floor 500(?) pound center ballast and was thinking of two different scenarios. The first would be two 350lb sacks, putting one in front of the back seat on the floor and putting the other in the walk though transom. The other scenario would be to buy two 540lb sacs, putting one in front of the back seat on the floor and the other sideways inside the open bow. Which scenario do you guys think is better, and do you think it will make much difference? In other words, is it worth spending the money?

P.S. Rear compartments next to engine are full with wakeboard gear/stereo equipment

I have the same boat.? I got a pair of 250 lb Sacs off ebay that say Mastercraft on them for $99 and put them in the side storage compartments under all the gear. Alot of gear still fit in there.? They did not take too much room.? I then put a 500 lb sac in the walk thru and this combined with the built in ballast and a few people made for a nice wake. I was quite pleased with it.

This winter I got 500 lbs of lead from a friend who works at a tire shop and melted them down into a bunch of 35 lb bricks and these are going into the bow lockers so I don't have to block the walk thru with the sac.? Lead is the way to go if you can get it. It is so dense!!? The only downside is melting it down [outside on Coleman stove] to keep from poisoning myself with lead fumes!!!? Good luck to you in your quest for the ultimate wake.

Git-r-done

Y'all put live wells in there? Or at least clear windows in the ballast bags so the bait has a view?

I wish leadheadz didn't go out of business (or whatever happened to them).
Used tractor weights come in 50-100 lb increments and some (CASE tractors) even have handles.
Melting lead might cause your kids to have arms growing out of their a$$. :o

Derek (Gr8dna) has a pal in Ca. who sells ballistic nylon pouches filled with steel pellets. They weigh something like 35lbs and have handles on them, etc. Hopefully he will chime in with the details. I think the name is Pop Products or something. It would probably cost a pantload to ship them, but you could probably buy the empty sacks from him and fill them with wheel weights, steel shot or whatever.

Well we just got back from the lake and the wake we had was awesome. We had 6 people, the stock ballast filled full, one 350lb fat sac on the floor in front of the back seat, and about 60.......sodas. We had two girls (about 115 lbs each) sit in the bow for a little bit of weight up there. Everyone who rode commented on how awesome the wake was. If we had filled up the second fat sac i wouldnt have even known where to put it. Maybe in the back locker? I don't think I could have put it close to the front because the bow was already really low. Anyways, I guess will we will just have fun with this wake for a couple weeks and then maybe try the second fat sac. Thank god our boats get such good gas mileage!

Here's the pimpest and most under-used ballast calculator you'll ever see: http://www.epicmarine.com/docs/Epic%20Ballast%20Calculator.xls

It will answer most what-ifs regarding which sacks fit where and how each affects trim.

Personally, I add equal amounts to the walkway and the trunk in the WAY back. Your mileage may vary.

The lead in the bow thing is really cool. Just can't get over hauling that much extra weight for any real distance.

The Pop Products bags are 40-pounds, and if you're interested, search on Wakeorld for Troy Lindstrom.
