Neophyte ramblings....
« on: June 25, 2003, 21:43:07 pm »
Whew. I thought I was going to have to build this web page. Very cool, because now I can just contribute. Spent a couple minutes on the site and learned some good stuff (where the engine was put together, that it's 'highly modified', etc.)

Best of all, I now see that there is a real life Epic owner community!!! Most powerful part of the internet, right here.

Bought one of them Boat Trader Online Epics (2000 S22 w/tower) from a nice guy in Dallas. Spotted it a month ago, a week later I had check in hand and was leaving on the epic 73-hour, 2900 mile drive.

I've since done the annual service (more on that later), replaced the battery with an Optima deep cycle (more on that later), lost and ordered the aft, center, bottom cushion ($244 !!!) and ordered a skeg.

Learned (and spent) a lot so far. It is a very nice boat, our first boat, and we've been waiting a very long time for this.

Looking forward to learning from you guys and helping where I can.

Welcome aboard, Derek!  Sounds like you did the same gig as me.  I just took delivery on a 1999 Epic 22 Direct Drive a couple of weeks ago, from a dealer in Indianapolis ( I liive near Philadelphia, and the boat went to northern Maine).  I took the trip out to Indy in early December and test drove it with parka and wool ski hat on!

They are definately a nice boat, well put together, quiet and fast!  I'm heading out to Maine soon to give it a work out with skiing , wakeboarding, etc!

Where'd you get your skeg?  I'd like to look into one for my boat, as there are submerged logs in the lake that I boat on that boats  sometimes hit...

Here's a picture of me and the boat.

Our boat was originally sold by Phil Dill Boats in Lewisville Texas. Their number is (972) 436-3581, and my contact is Greg Gaudin at extension 247.

He's still in contact with the Toyota Marine guys, and ordered the cushion and skeg for us. Both parts were in stock and are now en-route to us.

The skeg is a single, and fits in the recessed area of the mold. I've got an S22 installation procedure (hardest part is emptying the fuel tank.)

The skeg was like $59. Yours probably has a different recess for a two- or three-skegged unit.

As expected, a clean-bottom S22 slides a lot, even when towing a wakeboarder. I'd hate to see how it does with one of my slalom friends.

Cheers!
