Wake Pics
« on: June 26, 2003, 02:28:40 am »
I hear a lot of good things bout the wakes on these, but have never seen a weighted one out.  Please post some pics of weighted epics, I'd like to see how the wake pops up when you have 2000#+ in it, particularly for the v-drives.  Also can someone tell me how much more the v-drives use in fuel than the D's?.

Finally, how is the S22 for slalom skiing?  I'd like to pick one up but am and advanced recreational skiier, who appreciates a nice small wake.

Thanks

I'm at the dreaded 'advanced intermediate' level (story of all my hobbies) when it comes to slalom.

Truthfully, I've only skied behind my S22 one session (give me a break, I've only had it three weeks :-)

At 15' off, the wake is comparable to a '96 Malibu Sunsetter LX I've spent a lot of time behind. In other words, the S22 is a big boat and there is a wake. However, I found it consistent and became comfortable behind the boat within the first couple cuts. In the long run, I know15' off will be an outstanding ride.

I did go at a shorter lenght (I think it was 22' off, but it might have even been closer.) There is significant spray in the very center of the wake (propwash) which looked like is was going to be nasty but I never noticed it during cuts. It must be why they put that extra plate on some of the boats' transoms.

The good news was that at the shorter length, the wake was noticeably less hairy than behind Alan's Malibu. That's a very good thing for me because getting stood up instead of keeping the edge set hard is a problem at my skill (or absence of) level.

In short, I know that my skiing is definietly going to improve over the next few years and that the boat's wake will not slow me down. The Sunsetter won so many towboat awards during its day that matching or bettering its performance is something I did not expect from the S22. (:-))

Just remember, it's a big boat.

See my previous post, called Wake Pics, for a picture of my boat with a partially full Fat Seat and four people, two of which were my kids. It is considerably more massive with a full seat and 8 people. It was almost scary. It didn't drive that great but both Danny Harf and Travis Moye told me personally that the Toyotas drive better weighted than most other boats. I will have some more pics soon of the full fledged wake.

I have a 2001 SX. Vdrive.  There is an annoying spray at line lengths less then 15 off.  It is not a very good slalom boat.  We slalom behing a friends ddrive malibu.  I would like to try the wkae plate if I could find one.

That is the total wakeboard boat. Vdrive for skiing is just not great. Tell you what, I'll trade you straight up for my D drive. My boat is a pretty good crossover boat, does both pretty well.

Here's a picture of the wake behind our E22 at about 20mph with 6 people in the boat.  This was taken on Moosehead Lake in Maine, and was my daughter's first time getting up on skis.
