I'm at the dreaded 'advanced intermediate' level (story of all my hobbies) when it comes to slalom.
Truthfully, I've only skied behind my S22 one session (give me a break, I've only had it three weeks :-)
At 15' off, the wake is comparable to a '96 Malibu Sunsetter LX I've spent a lot of time behind. In other words, the S22 is a big boat and there is a wake. However, I found it consistent and became comfortable behind the boat within the first couple cuts. In the long run, I know15' off will be an outstanding ride.
I did go at a shorter lenght (I think it was 22' off, but it might have even been closer.) There is significant spray in the very center of the wake (propwash) which looked like is was going to be nasty but I never noticed it during cuts. It must be why they put that extra plate on some of the boats' transoms.
The good news was that at the shorter length, the wake was noticeably less hairy than behind Alan's Malibu. That's a very good thing for me because getting stood up instead of keeping the edge set hard is a problem at my skill (or absence of) level.
In short, I know that my skiing is definietly going to improve over the next few years and that the boat's wake will not slow me down. The Sunsetter won so many towboat awards during its day that matching or bettering its performance is something I did not expect from the S22. (:-))
Just remember, it's a big boat.
