Boat is stalling!
« on: July 02, 2005, 02:39:45 am »
Hey all. Cool website!, has helped me out a ton already.  Need some help from you pros. My boat cranks over and runs for about 10 secs. and stalls out.  The first time i had it out it  seemed to run fine. Then as i had it about half throttle it bogged down, i pushed the throttle about 3/4 down and nothing. then i noticed a little smoke from the exhaust so i shut it down. Looked at the engine a didnt see anything until i looked at the rear and noticed the ruuber tubes coming from the exhaust elbows were compressed in, like they were deflated. A friend recommended replacing the impeller which i did. The old one was trash. I looked at the hoses and could not find any remaing pieces so i thought all is well. And, like i said before had it out today, cranked it over , ran for about a 2 minutes then stalled out. Now it cranks over, runs for about 10 secs then stalls. Its almost the 4th and i'm feending out! Help!
In the immortal words of bartels and james, I thank you for your support.
 Chudd.

Check the following:
1. Pinch the fuel return line going back to the tank. If run ok then bad fuel pump.( upper )
2.  Have you replaced the belt or If the air intake has been contaminated the air flow meter can be dirty and or bad.
2220420010   MeterSub-Assy,IntakeAirFlow  $171.

3.  Put new spark plugs in.

I had a similar sounding problem once with a tank of stinking bad gas. I threw my son overboard, the stinking bad gas was gone and the boat ran fine. Seriously though, I had some lousy gas once and It made the boat lose power after a minute or two and then stall. It would always start again, but until I put some better gas in there, the boat ran like crap and stalled a lot.

Capt. Rick, thanks for the tech assist, first thing I would do is replace the fuel/water separator, it could be fulla water. Hopefully, it's not a bad fuel pump or something serious that'll keep you off the water for the 4th

Mercruiser 30494-1, west marine. I'm sick in the head for remembering part numbers.
