East Coast Epic Roundup, 2005
« on: July 11, 2005, 02:12:28 am »
Well, four of us managed to hook up this Saturday and show off our boats. It was pretty amazing seeing four Epics in one place. I don't believe I have ever seen this many in one place, even at the dealer when they were new. It was an awesome sight, and we all enjoyed meeting each other and checking out the boats. There was a pretty good representation of all models, the absolute cleanest Epic 21 that probably exists, formerly owned by Breakawaydayze and currently owned by Rambling Wreck. Wreck, (Ron) was kind enough to informally host the gathering and he and his wife Bonnie even fed us all. Hector and Lesman showed up too, so we had two Epic 22's,  his '99 and my 2000, and Les's S22. We swapped some stories and Les and I got some boarding in on Lake Hartwell, which is beautiful. My sons and I camped at a really nice campground, it was great and the weather managed to hold out.

Here are some pics that I posted in the Photo Gallery. They are in the User Galleries under El Rayo X, my alter ego.

Hopefully, this will become an annual event, we should do a West Coast one too!

Posted all my pics. There's an album on the front of the photos link for East Coast Epic Roundup 2005. Cool to see all these boats together! Wish I could have hung out longer. We motored outa there about noon today to get home before the storm hit.

Finally got the King to drive my boat. Thanks to Pete I gotta drop $350 on a new prop.  ;) Not that he dinged anything, but he noticed a vibration that I had pretty much gotten used to. I'm calling Acme tomorrow.

Oh, I uploaded the pics at full resolution (1.2m) so if you want to download them and print any out, just click on "Add to Favorites" at the bottom of the individual picture view, then view your favorites from the link at the top and download them all as a zip file.

Well, I'm not the king of anything but my own imagination, but I did get to drive Wrecks totally mint Epic 21. It drives like it's on rails, incredibly tight turning radius. No chine lock or any nonsense like that. His throttle adjustment is PERFECT. Mine has been a little tight since I bought the boat new, I wish I knew how to adjust that shifter. His is not too loose, not too tight. Like buttah. The Epic 21's have GOBS of power, smaller lighter boat with the same engine. Nice wake for boarding at boarding speed, even without weight (besides us old dudes!)

If you ever see a boat (or anything) for sale by Breakawaydayze, buy it. He is a maintenance fanatic. Even the tower had several coats of wax.

Pete,  It makes me sick to have missed the roundup!  Now I miss my old boat even more! I don't think anyone will appreciate it more than Ron and you guys!~ Hopefully I will get to meet you all later this summer and will get to show you all one of the last Epics, my 2002 S22!

I logged on this morning thinking I would post a little something first about the Round-Up, yeah, right. You guys are FAST!!!

What a hoot - the only thing in common to begin the weekend was an appreciation for these boats but I could not have imagined what a great group would gather. Thanks to all that showed up. Breakawaydaze, your ears must have been burning so you need to show for the proposed Second Bi-Monthly East Coast Epic Roundup, v2. Cyclone is an encyclopedia of knowledge about these boats (and others) without being a technocrat. You cannot look at his boat without smiling. It epitomizes what this whole thing should be about - having fun with the "Toy". Hector's boating past includes selling a 21 yr. old MC to a friend that he still sees - is that confidence in how you took care of your boat or what!! Lesman's hands are full - his 1 1/2 yr old wildcat climbed right into the driver's seat the second Lesman vacated it and was READY. Lesman said he had to leave since it was nap time - but he didn't say who needed the nap.

Les, now we know Pete's side job - working for Acme!!! He found a ding in my prop also. I am building up nerve to read the prop thread once more without my eyes crossing from all of the specs and details offered in it! However, thank goodness he also knows all stuff electrical (or at least is daring enough to guess at things on MY boat). He disconnected the awful beeping racket that drove me crazy every time I started the boat. I thank him, my family thanks him, my neighbors thank him, in fact, most of NE Georgia and Upstate SC thanks him.

You Seattle area owners better jump on Cyclone's suggestion that some of you get togetherin the next few weeks while he is in your area. You are guaranteed to have fun while meeting a new friend.

In summary, a public "Thank You' to Cyclone (Pete), primarily for hosting this website that benefits all of us so much but also for letting me occupy way too much of his time this weekend. I was just a bucket of questions and he graciiously spent an enormous amount of time on my dock instead of where his heart was, out on the water. It was fun letting Cyclone work the E21. Now I know why there are handles on the sides of the boat. He is also quite the wakeboarder, aided no doubt by the tital wake created by the walking, talking Fat Sack, Rambling Wreck...

Don't be so humble, you're not that great.

sounds like you guys had a great time.  I know we will have a 2000 S22, a 2001 S22, and a 2001 SX at Powell together the weekend after labor day.  Anyone is welcome to join or little party.  Bitzco and I aren't quite as mechanically adept as the east coast clam (How do you disconnect that friggin' start-up buzzer/alarm?) but we are total babe magnets.  What we lack in techno info we make up for in petcock interface.

Hey, this east coast clam ??? was quite the babe magnet in my day. If I could just remember where I put the 1970's pictures of me in my leisure suit I would prove it. Unfortunately, the memory is the the second thing to go. I can't remember the first-

As to the techno info on the ear pierciig alarm that let's you know you have turned the key to start the engine (maybe there is another purpose for it but I never figured it out), I believe Cyclone said he was going to start pulling wires until the engine cut off, figure out which wire caused that particular problem and plug it back in - everything else was probably ok to disconnect.

Actually he took about 3 milliseconds to complete the job. I just looked and there is a green and purple wire running next to each other from the lower wiring harness up through the hole leading to the instrument cluster. Right at the point where the wires go through the hole, there are disconnects. The purple wire did the trick on my boat. However, Cyclone needs to chime in here as I believe he mentioned that the correct wire on his boat may have been a different color. In fact, he found several variations between my boat and his - number of skeggs, the rudder, direction of rotation of the driveshaft(!). He never told me whose engine is running in reverse.

I'll take a pic when the rain stops, but basically, there is a small beeper device that is hooked to the ignition, I think it tells you when the ignition is on but the boat is not running. Mine was hooked up until the first time I took it to the dealership, they disconnected it. It is red, and is a small cylinder about 1" in dia and 1" high. You'll be able to find it QUICK if you turn the key while your head is under the dash. It has a purple wire (ignition) and a green (ground) wire going to it. ONLY two wires. There are quick disconnects in the harness an inch or two from it in each wire. Remove either wire. Test to make sure that your boat starts but the alarm is gone.

Finally got around to check on the web site. It was awsome to see 4 boats together.

A pleasure to meet Pete, Les and Ron, first class individuals (and great cooks also)

Let's do it again before the end of the summer. If you guys want, we can do it at Lanier (north end) next time.

Again, a great time.

We should,, doesn't matter to me where it happens. It's only another 30 minute ride to Hartwell. Works for me!

Hector, we need to get your cool ass Epic hat cloned, everyone on the site should have one! I have been watching ebay for 3 years for that kind of stuff, don't know how that one sneaked by!

Pete, I gotta get me a couple of them epicmarine.com decals...they look sweet on the boat. do you have any extras?  I'm calling terry right now to get him on the ball for your Seattle trip... I don't think he's visited the site for a while, and I haven't talked to him for at least a few weeks.

I'm with Cal. I want those stickers and I'll buy some for Festivus and his bro as well. How do I get em. By the way Cal, your villageidot screenname is one of my favorites. I am sure I would qualify to use it if it wasn't already taken.

My stickers didn't turn out well, Brad made some that are cooler but I've totally dropped the ball on them. Sorry! I have been meaning to take mine off and put his on, he can get a better deal on them than I can, I paid 40$ for the ones I had made and they got the font wrong.

Brad, can you still get the stickers made that you sent me? We should talk. Sorry it's been so long.
