Weighting and Epic 22
« on: August 05, 2005, 20:03:44 pm »
Looking for quick and easy way to weight an Epic 22.? I still mainly waterski so I'd like to be able to quickly change from weighted to unweighted.? I've seen alot of the weight bags and wonder which ones fill / empty the quickest.

Any suggestions?

Dan

Search for Fly High X-Series sacs.  That's what I use... Only had them for 30 days and they are awesome!  You can get 1600 Lbs. for < $300.  They have quick connects and have a larger diameter fill tube than the earlier versions of fat sacs.  I bought 2 pumps which are called Tsunami.  It's under 1 minute per 100 Lbs of ballast per pump.  Nice!

For starters, get a 500-700 pound bag to go in the trunk.  If that's not enough for you, you can go through the hassle of throwing a couple 400 lb. bags on either side of the engine compartment.  I usually just load my boat up with people, it's a lot easier than bags!!  Get any pump that uses Rule 1100 pumps.  I think the Skylon ones do, so do the Fly High?  I just know that mine doesn't have a Rule pump and it sucks balls.

I'm interested in the Tsunamis and their quick connects, but for quick work, Cal's right about the Rule 1100s. Was just using mine yesterday and when you have a 1" stream of water that's coming out solid and strong, it's easy to see they're moving a ton of water. My Big Bumpb are 750 pounds when 'overfilled', and I swear you're talking like 5 minutes. I'll time them for real some day soon. They're so quick that even with the huge Bumps, it's ALMOST not worth using two pumps at the same time. In fact, I typically bring the second pump mainly because it'd stink to be out there with one and have it fail for some reason.

The Rule pumps will work with any conventional sack. Mine came from www.gethighsports.net

I also just purchased the X series fly high fat sacks with the Tsunami pump.  The quick connect is great!

It is also nice not to have to worry about any covers for them since they are made with heavier material.

It's nice the the Epics have such a massive trunk, I had fully filled Skylon locker sack in there, it is wider and flatter than typical sacks and fits the trunk better, an Obrien Super Screamer 70" tube, an old Skurfer (Rage, pink one!) and about 8 life jackets in there yesterday.

It is difficult to affix pumps to the bag in the trunk, I definitely would recommend making a simple ballast system similar to the factory setup, you can even buy the factory sack and cover right from Toyota. You'll want a person or two sitting in the bow with the back sack filled, or throw a regular fat sack in the walkway like I do. Killer wake.

Oh yeah, don't worry so much about paying extra for bigger fittings, you can put whatever size fitting on a bag that you want pretty easily. I use 1" rule thru hull fittings, they have a big wide flat flange that seals really well.

You can get the Rule pump from Toyota for 37$, good deal.

The part is in the TMS Parts lookup database, I'd contact Ski Masters or Atlanta Marine. They can ship UPS. Sometimes, the parts are a little steep, sometimes they are very reasonable. Depends on the part.
