Tower option
« on: August 24, 2005, 05:28:29 am »
I tried many different options to get a tower for my S22. We tried working through a local Seattle dealer to get a
factory tower to no avail. We liked the look of the Mooba New Dimensions tower so we rolled the dice and bought one from wakeside.com. 1799 free shipping + 400 for the racks. We had to cut all six mounting cleats and increase the angle by 5 degrees. We streched the back of the tower 4 inches and shrunk the front by 6. The tower looks great and is incredibly strong. One possible issue is the 6'1" clearance from the bottom of the boat to the rack. I am 6' so no trouble for me. I have around 20 hours into the install.

WOW that looks nice! What do you mean about cutting the cleats, etc? Did you have the tower modified or have the design changed a bit before you bought it? It looks really good on that boat.

Jason,

Tower looks pretty good! Curious what were the problems getting the Toy factory tower? I thought I heard that Ski Masters had a few sitting around. I always thought the Toy ones looked pretty nice too; clean like the rest of the boat. Haven't put one on mine, but maybe someday....

Also, there are a number of us in the Seattle area. Where do you ride? And where's the pic at?

Looks real good!  I like the height, no banging the head on the tower :)

Great job! I like the fact that it's wider than ours up top - you can do a regular bimini under there and still cover the driver and passengers (at noon, on the equator, steady sea, etc.). Looks good!

Now would someone please mount one of them carbon BU towers (with the integral 6x9's) on an Epic????

Cyclone - I ordered the stock tower for a 2002 outback. The LSV would have been less stretching. I actually cut the tubes at the cleat, reshaped the them, and tig'ed them back on. I also had the bend the cleat to fit the flatter contour of the epic.

Epic Toy - the towers at ski masters (one white, one polished) are d-drive towers. They wanted $3800+tax for them. They quoted me $3000 for a "factory" tower, but it turned out to be a sampson. That pic is on beautiful lake whatcom in Bellingham. We tie up to a friends bouy about 300 yards from my house,  real nice for that 8:00 ride in the evening.

I am very happy with the look, I am having an aluminum plate sandblasted with "toyota marine sports" to go over the Moomba logo.

You seattle guys give me ring if your up this way. I keep 1500lbs on board always.

3800 is way to much for the banged up demo towers that they display tower speakers from at Ski Masters. FYI I payed 2700 for my factory tower installed back in the day. That was a year or two after I bought the boat. The transom top was 600 .

You did a super nice job on that tower, it looks stunning on that boat.

Everyone, try ordering from your dealer, and them from other dealers, see what price you get. There is definitely a very limited customer base for these parts, we can dictate the price on certain parts. I don't mind paying retail but 3800 is retail plus f**k me hard. Bad business for ski boat dealers that need cashflow. For that price, I'd do what you did (new dimension towers) but tell them it's for a Toyota, they have done them before. I think they may be the OEM tower supplier for Toyota.

I was curious when I saw reference to new dimensions in the initial post. As most of you know, Breakawaydaze had the tower on what is now my E21 custom made by newdimensions(.com). The lines of this tower are VERY similar to mine (most notable exception-triple attachment points).  BTW Jason, you have done a beautiful job with your tower. After reading of your efforts, I am more appreciative that my boat had the tower on it when I got it!
Don't be so humble, you're not that great.

Thank you for all your compliments. As I had this tower hooked to a tree and to the boat trailer with a 2 ton come a along wrenching it to fit, I had my doubts I would be successful. I cant imagine buying another boat, but if I did it would have a tower on it for sure.

jason, I've never seen anypne else with a single axle trailered vdrive. I was beginning to wonder but the TMS rep verified for me that they did sell that configuration.

The tower does look sweeeeet!
