Accessory buttons dont work
« on: September 13, 2005, 23:30:35 pm »
Hello well first of all I'm a proud owner of a s22 and last month I noticed that all my accessory buttons don't work.  When I go and press one all it does is just click but nothing happens.  I took my boat to a marina that worked on epics, Skipper Buds in WI and they told me its the DC inverter and it would cost $900 to replace, $500 for the part and $400 for labor and I'm like WHAT $900 to replace the part I was in shock that it would cost that much so I held off on that because I knew a guy that thought he could get me the part at cost but found out he couldn't but he sent me to this web site to contact a guy at Atlanta Marine and he could hook me up with it but I tried to email him twice and he never responded and tried looking for a number I could reach him at but never found one.  If any one in this forum could help me find out what this part is I need because the marina never showed me the part or if anyone else has had this problem would be great

Assuming all switches on the panel act the way you described...

I don't know what a DC inverter is, but I do know what drives the accessories on an S22. It's called the DECC and it's located under the dash area. It's the black box with circuit breakers on it.

Check out: http://www.epicmarine.com/docs/Digital%20Switchbox.pdf    It'll tell you to check connections, etc. Connections are an issue on any boat system that's as computerized as ours.

Also, the DECC is item 3 in this figure: http://www.epicmarine.com/figures/Fig_10.jpg

First two steps I'd recommend are to turn off the battery switch for a minute or two and then try your switches, and if that doesn't work...go through and follow the main power wires between the switch box, the DECC and the battery. I'd reseat all the connectors (AFTER TURNING OFF THE BATTERY SWITCH) and then try again.

If no luck, your DECC probably needs to be checked out. I'd go straight to TOYOTA (Rick Cohn) at that point to see if they'd be willing to do a checkout for you.

I'm just going from memory here, but if you've got a terminal strip in between your DECC and switch panel, then yes, it matters. Maybe you could get a multimeter and see if there's power getting up to the system from the battery.

Besides that, maybe just have a refreshment while the real brains around here get home from work and log in ;-)

The real brains have arrived. All you have to do is get that red thing, hook it up to the square box dealie, attach the black wire to the green and red striped wire, and hold the red striped wire in your left hand while you stand on your head and balance a miller light on your right foot. Shout, "long live the god of boating" and have a friend touch an arc welder to your "naughty bits." You will be amazed how this technique will solve almost any boat related problem. And, if it doesn't, you won't be in any condition to use your boat anyway.

If you stay on this forum, you will quickly learn to ignore any post that I make because "I know nothing." I have no skills. Sorry about that. I would truly like to help, but I'm just here for comedic relief.

Does the DECC have white wires built in or does it have a terminals with screws and orange wire ? If it has orange wire you need: only the first item. Also unplug the white plug and see if the button work.
