another Winterizing question promise last one

Loosening the passenger side block drain,  since i cannot get the drain plug loosened i drained it from the oil cooling attachment that comes from the same adapter.  I would assume that would be good enought since it is coming from the same adapter.  is this true?  thanks in advance

this is one of those high liability questions! I will say that I loosened the oil cooler attachment first this year, and lots of water came out. I then loosened the same petcock and no more water came out. So, in my opinion you're probably okay leaving it in there. But, I would still get that petcock out just to get it out.

I had a similar problem with that petcock (it's in another thread in the last couple weeks) and not being able to remove it. If you can't get that brass bolt out of the petcocki, you should be able to remove the whole assembly as it's threaded right into the block. You have to remove a couple things to get in there, but on mine you can barely attach a socket (plus 24" breaker bar, if necessary) to the end of the petcock assembly to break it loose. I will admit that it was stressful. You don't won't to break that assembly at the block!

BTW- don't forget the direct drive engines are 180 from the V-drives. I'm assuming you have a direct drive....

If you drain the port side engine ( direct drive )the remaining water is less then 1 quart. But the important water to remove is in cooler of gears. Need #10 flex 6 point socket on long extention to reach booth sides.

Capt. Rick, do you mean the Vdrive cooler? The ddrive trans cooler is emptied when I pull my strainer.

i have a direct drive.  epic 21 do i need to drain anything else?  i just followed the winterizing instructions.  le me know please as it goes in storage next weekend

No, you'll be fine. I've done it according to that procedure for five years, no problems at all.

I just moved here...Do you have to winterize?

If so, what do you do?

I do everything in the winterize list posted on the site. Plus whatever additional is in the manual. It does freeze in Seattle a few times a year.

You do want to drain the water from block, manifolds, and other systems. And they say it's best to change oil for the winter sit as well. Stabilizer in gas. Put a small heater in the boat to keep the moisture away and check for mice every once in a while. Those are probably minimum for me.
